I wanted to come here before I decided to make any concrete decisions. Here is the situation. My 98 Grand Marquis popped a ball joint, and according to my mechanic (Campus Auto) I need an idle arm along with one other item (can't remember what exactly). He said that parts and labor total would be about $500. As a college student, of course my reaction was So I thought to come here and ask if anyone here is certified (of course there are some) and would like to make some money doing this work. If it would be better to just try and pay the $500 and let the mechanic do the work, just let me know. Thanks for any help and suggestions.

Plenty of folks here can do something that simple. Contact Jeepman.

You will, of course, have to get an alignment afterward, but that holds true of any suspension/steering work such as this. You don't need to be "certified." Hell, I've been doing suspension work for YEARS, and I don't have any certifications. Did many alignments too. If I had the time, shop space, and I lived closer to campus, I'd hook you up. Alas, I do not.

that's like asking a car salesman if he's a certified car salesman!!1!

some of the worst mechanics are the ones that paid to go to a school and get "certified" but don't have enough real world experience.

anyways.. yeah, plenty of ppl on here can fix that. hell, i could fix that. none of them are going to be certified though most likely. not that they need to be

^^the ball joints are available separate.

the upper one is super easy to replace. i used to be ase certified but i imagine they have expired by now

thanks for schooling me on the "certified" thing. It was not my attention for that to be offensive or anything. But yeah, if anyone here is interested in undertaking this project, I need to know soon. I am paying cash.
