Just got HD DVR box hooked up to my new HDTV via HDMI...

works perfect except i noticed when i'm watching TV sometimes the screen will freeze....then it will unfreeze and keep working (almost like it had to buffer or something)...

my wife says she hasn't noticed it on the channels she watched, so that makes me think it may be only certain channels (fxhd, scifihd, etc...)

anyone else have this problem? Is it just TWC's feed, or is it a faulty box? Thanks

Never noticed this problem until tonight when the gf was watching pirates of the caribbean on scifiHD (never really watch this channel) so i dunno it may be that channel? Been watching other HD channels since then and it hasn't done it once. Watching scifiHD it would do it once every 4-5 minutes or so.

LET'S SAY THAT YOU WANT TO COORDINATE WITH SPACESHIPS

ON DIFFERENT SIDES OF THE EARTH.

YOU COULDN'T SEND A DIRECT SIGNAL, RIGHT?

YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT LINE OF SIGHT.

YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT. EXACTLY. THE CURVE OF THE EARTH PREVENTS IT. YOU'D NEED SATELLITES TO RELAY THAT SIGNAL IN ORDER TO REACH EACH SHIP.

WELL, I FOUND A SIGNAL HIDDEN INSIDE OUR OWN SATELLITE SYSTEM.

THEY'RE USING OUR OWN SATELLITES AGAINST US... AND THE CLOCK IS TICKING.

would be interested to know if this is a feed issue or hw/sw issue specifically on the 8300. poor feed quality and artifacts on HD channels is something that plagues most/every cable provider. SDV is on its way and should help these issues, but seems to be a couple years out from maturity.

as a remedy for poor cable HD programming, some people combine their channel lineup with over-the-air ATSC tuners and media center PC's. if i gave a crap about television, i'd probably go this route. oh, except that i have a fios hookup. lol.

someone actually sent out his network diagram at work today for how he has this hooked up with comcast (again, this is not just a twc issue). if anyone is interested in it (the cable + ATSC tuner setup), let me know. sounded pretty cool the way he had everything set up in his house.

Actually, the 8300 is a pretty decent box, its just TWCs shitty ass Navigator software that is useless. So glad I only had to put up with it for a couple of months before I moved and got Dish.

i called TWC...they sent a "refresh" signal to my box. it still froze periodically. Then they told me to unplug the box for 45 seconds and let it reboot. it still froze after that.

They said they would have to send out a service technician.

They acted like it was an uncommon problem, yet you guys say it is normal. So, which is it?

Its the new firmware and the hd box. I have had more problems since the new firmware was sent out last year and I only have a regular 8300. A guy here at work changed from the 8300 to the 8300hd after getting a HD TV and has had nothing but trouble. Not recording preprogrammed shows, glitching, locking up...all the normal awesomness that TWC provides.

It's the reason I dropped TWC. It got to the point where my box was rebooting randomly about twice a week and not recording stuff like it was supposed to. I went to DirecTV and haven't looked back. It's night and day different.

We had this and said "fuck it" and canceled everything but roadrunner.

There's a cheesy ass satellite dish in my front yard (still) that the dumb sluts upstairs left when they moved out. The apartment complex didn't want to do anything about it, so fuck it.

Maybe my roommate can get directv with that dish and not worry about how shitty TWC's digital TV/HD service really is.

[Edited on July 7, 2009 at 9:15 AM. Reason : Things were OK with their service until they updated their navigator software. It's shit now.]

What is included in comparably priced DirectTV/Dish packages to TWC's standard HD package?

Their 8250HD boxes (with the cablecard slots) are significantly slower than the 8300HDs too. I literally have to wait a second between button presses to navigate the interface. The apt I live in faces the wrong direction for satellite and there's no U-Verse or anything available, so i'm stuck with TWC.

You have multiple people in here saying the 8300HDC sucks. Who are you gonna believe, the TWC rep wanting you to keep the service, or those of us who already jumped shipped?

When I went to pick up my 8300HDC there was a chick adamant about the box sucking and don't switch, she was going to satellite. I thought she was just an anecdote and it wouldn't be my problem. It seemed to be ok for me for about 2 weeks, and then the first time it really shit the bed was about 90 seconds before the opening kickoff against USC last year when I had about 10 buddies over here for the game. That was embarrasing.

Over the next 6 months it seemed to be having a screen pixelate at least once an hour or so was the norm. When it finally started dropping recordings and just wholesale freezing for minutes at the time, I said it was time to switch. I'm now with AT&T for DSL and get more consistent high speeds than TWC, and I'm with dISH and their box and software rapes TWC. The picture switches in about 1/3 of the time, and the remote responds to my buttons pushes instantly.

And even after my promotions expire I'll be paying about 40% less for 95% of the channels I want.

Fuck TWC.

Did they come out on the first call to them and did they get it fixed right away? Did they make you wait at home in a 4 hr window and then come in the last 15 minutes of the window?

Fail Boat,
I had to call 4 times to get them to come out and put a line in (new construction). When I finally got an appointment, they called and postponed their arrival 3 times and finally got here at 3PM (original time was 9-11AM). The guys doing the installation were great and courteous, just explained they had been backed up at their other jobs, which is understandable...
I had to call back today and ask if they were going to come bury the line (the guy said that a work order had not been put in and he is glad i called)..
