Went there yesterday for lunch, during their normal hours, and they were closed... lights dark, all that... but no signs or anything up to say why. The whole store looked exactly like it normally would when it's open, with the exception of the "closed" sign... Same thing happened about a month ago, but then I figured it was just a temporary thing.

Anyone have any information about this?

I hope they're only closed for the summer or something... I <3 NY isn't nearly as good.

Never seen or heard of Amore's before. Is it <$5 for two slices and a drink there, as well?

I love Sylvia's. I never understood why it never got the love like NY crap did. Buuuuut, if I remember correctly, he used to close down for most holidays and often during the summer? Just not as much traffic there, so not worth the cost of being open.

I went by last week (maybe the week before) and got lunch. He said business was poopy and he didn't open for dinnertime unless he felt like it. Nothing about closing entirely, though.

There was also a guy outside cutting down tree limbs with a chainsaw, wearing a tank top and flip flops.

Huh, maybe he'd just closed for the day when I got there, then.

Waking up late caused me to end up having "lunch" around 4.

restaurants on hillsborough have very different hours in the summer. i wouldn't be surprised if they were closed already at 4.

LOVE Sylvias pizza. Best hillsborough st. pizza by far.

He closes sometimes when business is slow or something happens...I've done the same thing.

Not only do I prefer the pizza at Sylvia's (and the pasta and subs are good too, if you can wait 15+ minutes while they are made) but Sylvia is a super nice guy, whereas the owner of I <3 NY is a giant dick. I much prefer to give my patronage to establishments that make the customer feel valued.

Sylvia's has other non-pizza things that are really good, and probably one of the better non-expensive italian places in Raleigh.

1. Summer hours
2. Shitty construction on Hillsborough
3. I know for a fact that their power got knocked out a week or two ago because the construction crews aren't the brightest crayons in the box. They were closed that whole day. Could have possibly happened again.

Amedeos ftmfw - and do patronize it because they only hire nc state students and they have been here for over 50 years (my parents were actually engaged there haha) and they really are going out of business soon.

sylvias is okay for other dishes, pizza is greasy imo but he can't really make super great shit when he's trying to keep costs down for students. good affordable Italian place for sure

speaking of construction on hillsborough...

somebody needs to pass out brochures around raleigh explaining that a flashing yellow light does not mean a 4 way stop

I like the food at Sylvia's, and the guy is cool. Amedeo's has decent food, but I never liked the high prices considering the quality of the food, cramped booths, and hideous decor.

The pizza at Sylvio's is fucking GREAT!!! The owner Sylvio is always a class act when we come in there to eat. During lunch in between classes during my undergrad years he would always give us extra helpings of salad or if it was close to closing time, he'd hook us up with an extra slice of cheese pizza...we ALWAYS tipped him very well!

Maybe TWW can do something to help business for Sylvios Pizza, the guys works his butt off to compete with crappy I love NY and Amore's, and his prices are always so much better!

Maybe we can pick a certain night of the week where we can have a "TWW night at Sylvia's??" Would any of you guys be up for doing that to help his sumemr business until the students return in the fall?

All the bad construction on Hillsborough is not helping his business either! HELP SLYVIO'S PIZZA ON HILLSBOROUGH ST. stay in business!!
