looked pretty bad ass. it still kind of irks me they keep making WW2 games but if they are a decent game.. they are a decent game no matter when they are based. definately worth the $15

not touching it until it comes out on the PC

Battlefield 1942 and it's successors on the PC (well, Vietnam and BF2) were some of the best FPS's ever made

Fuck it all if I'm going to let some console fuck that up

shrug things like COD are still very awesome on console (i play both console and pc in the past).

for 15 bucks im totally down once they get the servers going.

Battlefield 1942 was one of my favorite games ever. As said above, I'm waiting for the PC release.

aww...sorry about that. but i stand firmly behind the belief that FPS games are always better on the PC

i find it easier to shoot/snipe people on a 65" screen in 1080p rather than a 22" monitor, but thats just me

i have a feeling this will turn into a PC vs console argument...so i will add fuel to the fire.

they both have good points.

i like PC because a little more precise control in FPS games.
i like console because i get a little more freedom of movement/comfort.

also i heard talk about starting trying to get console and PC to play together with some 360 games. I would like to see how those matches end, with one team console, one team PC

FWIW, the size of the dude you're sniping on a HDTV at 8 feet back isn't any easier to see than the same dude on a 20" monitor 1.5 feet away (my PC is on my 50" dlp running via a HDCP card)

anyway, is it true that there is unlimited ammo and regenerating health in the game? i hope not...that would take away from the whole BF experience...dashing for the ammo crates or health cabinet was always a couple of breath-holding seconds

^ they did say there would be unlimited ammo, didnt hear about the health... but there is no medic option so unless one of the other options has a med kit, it will be regenerative health my dream of 1942 but for a console is slowly turning I am glad there are a lot to choose from in the Battlefield series.

well there was no medic class before BF2 (for sure in BFV, don't think so in 1942)...there were just lockers or crates around the flags

i played BFV so much, i can probably still remember what huts/buildings/etc the heals were in

i played medic exclusively in 1942.....the gun was essentially as good as the infantry soldiers gun except you also had a health kit

Waiting on the PC version.

BTW, do the best of both worlds and use a wireless keyboard/mouse combo with a nice video card that has HDMI. Thats what I do to play on my 42" Plasma instead of my 23" LCD.

doesnt seem very ergonomical to use a keyboard and mouse in the traditional living room. you are either hunched over on the coffee table or have the mouse at some other awkward angle. at least in my experience.

so whats the verdict, is this fun or no.

i started using trackballs back in 1999....i play my pc games in a lay-z-boy in the living room with the trackball on the right arm, a wireless keyboard on my lap, and my feet kicked up in front of the 50"

but yeah, without a trackball, it would be kind of sucky

i forgot all about the medic class in 1942. there was none in BFV...man thinking back i miss the pre-nerf M-60/LAW combo...that thing was dominating

I don't even see it as a contest these days. FPS games are hands down better on console. RPG games are debateable but i'd lean PC. Whereas
RTS games are hands down PC. I hate played RTS games on console.

Played this VERY briefly yesterday after work. Seemed really fun and I love the way the environment breaks down and that you can fly planes, use boats/jeeps/tanks...

Oh and I never played any Battlefield games before...

wait,

i feel i'm about to offend many of you purists
is this a different version of the battlefield bad company game?

I played it last night, it was fine but it takes forever to kill people just like the other battlefield. And forget trying to do some damage with the airplane's bombs.

Honestly I'm surprised that this comment hasn't been attacked by more people. The only real reason I play an FPS on a console is my friends are on Live.

I can't believe anyone could say "FPSs are better on console than PC" with a straight face.

i would attack it, but there is simply no way he can defend it. figured it wasn't worth the time

the one thing i will say is that it's probably a lot easier to fly the planes in 1943 with a game pad than a keyboard. i could do helos well with the keyboard/mouse in BFV and BF2, but I stayed out of jets...

I just kept a joystick plugged in for jets and helos in BFV and it worked really well. Could switch over really quick from keyboard to joystick and back if needed.

I really can't believe anyone seriously thinks FPS are better on any console than PC. I feel like I'm drunk trying to aim with a thumbstick on a console controller compared to the accuracy you get with a mouse.

The 1942 music was actually part of the North Carolina Symphony concert at Koka Booth amphitheater in Cary the other night. Oddly enough, all the footage they showed on the video screen was from Bad Company.

I played it and all it did was make me wish for the old school days of BF1942 and DC back. We played with a group of guys every Wednesday night and some of the guys had put together a bunch of custom maps. Lots of fun - I think even Breezer or what ever his name was joined us once. Also - that server called Dontcamp that was at school here was always a blast for good DC rounds.

oh god 1942 and DC had such GOOD gameplay and well thought out maps... bf2 had potential but flopped some, that with a lack of continued support for bf2 by pushing out 2142 was disappointing

eh, I enjoyed BF2 more than 1942, but I do like the modern combat better than WWII games

but the new elements and touches they added were very nice

I miss the feeling of BF:Vietnam and BF2 when you would have people airlift you into a hotzone via huey or blackhawk. Now with the newer BF's it just feels like everyone is out to be on their own and do their own thing.

i was pumped about 1943 until i heard that they removed the complexity to the game (streamlined the player classes, unlimited amo, regen health) that made BF1942 amazing. what a shame that these developers aim for the lowest common denominator.
