Lady Gaga did make one brilliant career move. By giving her act the pretense of being an "art project", she has allowed pseudo-intellectual types to enjoy dance music without feeling guilty about it.

If you like Lady Gaga, you would probably also like Britteny Spears. But, because Spears has a country accent and trashy past, you probably won't see anyone making an "Official Britteny Spears Thread" anytime soon.

My point was that some people's pretensions can lead them to not liking music they may otherwise enjoy.

My comment was not directed at anyone in this thread, but more or less a general comment based on someone i don't like at work.

This is incorrect. Daft Punk, Juctice, Hot Chip, Hercules and Love Affair and Girl Talk made it ok for pseudo-intellectuals to enjoy dance music.

Lady Gaga just trailed the wave of "cool" dance acts that have become popular in recent years and rode it to super stardom.

Britney Spears and Lad y Gaga may be similar but they come from two different places. Lady Gaga from the Lower East Side which gives her this "pseudo-intellectual" cred and Spears from the mickey mouse club which gives her none of this cred.

i think she really takes herself seriously as an artist--probably too seriously. She's so into fashion (or cultivating an image) that almost nobody has ever seen her wear 'normal' clothes since she became popular. You can't wear crazy ass masks and all that other weird shit for the rest of your life.
