7/10/2009 3:11:25 PM
3 injured.http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/5546712/They were just hooking it up to a wrecker to flip it back when I drove past around 1. The driver in the back is lucky that he didn't get smushed.[Edited on July 10, 2009 at 3:12 PM. Reason : link not image]

They do go zooming around town like assholes in those things. Even for fire trucks... I saw one rolling like 40 down the middle of the only two open lanes on Hillsborough St through the construction at like 1 pm one day. That's just fucking retarded. Just take Clark or go over to Western.

omgmy daddy is a firefighter (not in raleigh)but stuff like this, the ocracoke fireworks fiasco, and the movie Ladder 49 makes me worry SOO much about him=/
7/10/2009 3:19:32 PM
These are more fails:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCUTKqXf-wE (close fail)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G3uoVOOlT2shttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slAfw1KZft4This is why you get hundreds of hours of training before you even get into one of these things - this isn't your F150. And also why you wear a seatbelt. Still, shit happens and auto accidents are more likely to claim FF lives than actual fire. And most of the time, the fault lies with the idiot civilians that freak out at intersections when they see red lights behind them. When you see lights, pull to the RIGHT!
7/10/2009 3:19:42 PM
does the guy in the second video just keep walking away, down the sidewalk? LOL

7/10/2009 4:03:46 PM
So... I wonder how much it's going to cost to fix it up...I mean, firetrucks aren't cheap... [Edited on July 10, 2009 at 4:15 PM. Reason : .]
7/10/2009 4:08:30 PM
is it bad karma to talk shit about a firefighter that epic failed in his job driving a fire truck? i mean, like is it bad to talk about a fighter pilot who, oh, i dunno, boltered on 4 attempts to land his aircraft and had to ditch it in the ocean?are we to the point again where we can openly criticize those who suck at their job even though they are performing a noble task without the college aged psuedo-trotsky idealists making it impossible to have free speech?

that's probably one of the biggest trucks the city has[Edited on July 10, 2009 at 6:40 PM. Reason : most expensive, anyway]
7/10/2009 6:40:18 PM
That one cost $668,283.00 according to http://www.legeros.com/ralwake/raleigh/apparatus/aerials/aerial-2004-pierce.shtmlRaleigh just purchased a couple new ladders at 825,000 a piece.
7/10/2009 7:59:15 PM
poor ladder 4 that thing is hard as fuck to drivelook at the tiller box in the pics... it's a damn miracle the tillerman got out alive...http://www.legeros.com/ralwake/photos/weblog/archives/archive_2009-m07.php#e2396
7/10/2009 8:04:49 PM
How fast would they have to be going to roll that truck?

yeh, i was about to post ^. it's the only one. who's our backup?
7/10/2009 10:40:28 PM
Maybe something way out in durham?Hopefully nothing that tall catches on fire any time soon and the smaller ladder trucks can handle it.
7/10/2009 10:43:01 PM
It's the only Tiller RFD has but RFD has other Ladder trucks that can handle high rise fires...then you also have Garner FD with Ladders and every other damn city surrounding Raleigh with Ladders of their own...so no need to worry....and let's not be so quick to blame the FFs...Both drivers had 30+ years of driving experience between them....the cause for the accident is still under investigation...and to the people complaining about RFD and their response speed: I would think you would want them to speed to your location if you were pinned-in a vehicle or trapped in a burning house...
7/10/2009 10:51:43 PM
I wouldn't blame them for any of it. shit happens, mistakes happen. no blame needed, not punishment needed, etc.
7/10/2009 10:52:45 PM
7/10/2009 10:55:04 PM
^^^yup.you don't get to be a tillerman unless everyone is damn sure you know what you're doing.and yeah, isn't the aerial on ladder 4 just as tall? or somewhat close?and i know we have some in cary that were bought because of SAS
7/10/2009 11:29:00 PM
This ladder isn't any taller than the other, its 100' and Raleigh still has, I think, three 105' and a couple 100' and whatever is in reserve. This one was more maneuverable and could carry more equipment. They will probably do what the did last year when they flipped an engine (a brand new one too) on St. Albans and put a reserve ladder out at station 1.
7/11/2009 10:05:20 AM
the firefighters that talked to our camp kids were on a ladder truck that goes 105 ft. they said they have been having to respond to calls yesterday that the hook/ladder normally responded to. they also said each time they go downtown and back, it takes about a 1/4 tank of fuel (from a 60 gallon tank!)

7/11/2009 3:45:15 PM
Took out a tree or two as well.
7/11/2009 6:37:05 PM
fuck the trees, this was obviously an emergency
7/11/2009 6:38:18 PM
that is a very expensive truck, im glad the fire fighters are ok

it's pretty obvious what happened therethe firetruck felt it was doing a good job, so it rolled over on it's back and waited for someone to rub its belly
