I heard the history museum in Raleigh has a pirate display. My cousins are in town and range from age 34 to 4. Is it something adults and young children would like?

It would have been fine if it had been free like the rest of the museum. However, it is $5, and wasn't worth it IMO.

There are a few things for kids that they would probably enjoy, though, and it is mildly interesting for adults. Might be worth doing I guess, or just spend the time at the natural sciences museum for free. Kids and adults seem to like that a lot.

^^That sucks, but I guess they have to make their money somehow.

What were the highlights besides the skull? Did they actually have old guns?

i thought it was great, then again im all about some history museum

its mostly displays, the do have some sword and gun replicas, they dont have very many actual artifacts and the few they have have been at the bottom of the ocean for hundreds of years and are barely discernable

still fun though

I can't really remember it that well, but I know they had a good many artifacts from the wreckage of the ship like some cannonballs and stuff (covered in barnacles). They had plenty of weapons on display, but I don't remember if they had any actually from that era.

I guess now that I think about it it was actually a decent exhibit. It's just that it was on par with the other stuff at the museum, whereas I went in expecting something more since they charged for it.

Not that I can recall. Remember it's the North Carolina History Museum, so the focus is naturally going to be more local.

^^Well it says they focus on a the entire history of pirates with most of it being about North Carolina.

^You might be talking about "The Human Body" which was at The Streets of South Point Mall about 2 years ago.

that was it. that was pretty cool, i really like Discovery place. they have the imax theater that thing is the shit. they had this movie there one time it was the blue angels. its like 9 bucks to go see a movie there but it is worth every penny. also if anyone that lives around the charlotte area know of a good planetarium let me know. the Imax at discovery place has one but i can never catch the shows for the stars.

well ya, they talk about pirates in general and say a little but about all the famous ones but its mostly concentrated on blackbeard and pirating in north carolina

but its the same in the military wing, it talks about the wars in general but concentrates on the north carolina servicemen

still no egyptians or romans or huns or chinese or anything else

It was ok, but is wasn't as spectacular as the Dead Sea Scrolls, but it did have Roman coins.

So has anyone seen the Chocolate display and the Museum of Natural Science across the plaza? Is it worth $7.00?

Dead Sea Scrolls is what you're thinking of...but everythign that goes to Discovery Place in Charlotte shows up in Raleigh at one point or another. They are all traveling exhibits.

They charge for it? I got in for free on the 4th.

I thought they did a really good job with the exhibit and I'm glad I went.
