Anyone else ever been to the fort fisher off road beach area? Everytime I passed by that cardreader/trail access leading out to the area on the way to the ferry I was in someone's else's car and I forgot about it by the time I got back. Freeman park up on the north end will probably be slammed during the weekend, not to mention it's 20 bucks for the day, this is 10. Just wondering, I've never heard any mention of it.

I went to the Fort Fisher offroad area when I was about 13 and had a blast. My uncle drove us in his '81 CJ (don't recall if it was a CJ-5 or -7) and I got to bounce around in the back seat. We went all over bumpy, sandy terrain which was full of big dips and mounds, kind of like the surface of a struesel pastry. That was around 1993, I don't know if it's changed since then, but it was fun.

I didn't mind paying a little when I saw that they put some porta potties out there and seemed to be keeping the place clean, but $20 a day is ridiculous. If you camp you have to buy two days worth of passes, so you're looking at $40 for an overnight trip. You can camp at a privately owned, for profit, campsite for that.

What kind of services are they providing for the money they are taking in? Since the actual beach is free for everyone to use they're basically charging you a ridiculous fee to be able to drive on a 1 mile stretch of beach. The 4Wheeling community should find out who is responsible for these fees and make sure they get about 3,000 e-mails about it.

It was free five years ago. I don't see any reason that they should be taking in any more money than it takes to keep the porta-potties clean and the trash picked up. Or get rid of that shit and make it free again.

OBX off road beach areas were pretty sweet, wide open and plenty of room to fish. Fort Fisher rec area was the same story and nice, especially for Saturday when the beaches were already crammed with people from the ranger station up through carolina beach.
