i would love to spend an allotted amount of time (this is dependent on the customs) in areas known for its strict religious beliefs.

pehaps a few weeks in the middle east to study the traditions of Islam.

and a month in Thailand to soak up the teachings of Buddha.

and then maybe Nepal or India to grasp what I can of Hinduism.

etc....etc....

(mind you i'm not sure if these would be the places to go...but you get the idea )

ahhhh. i would be in heaven (pun intended )

other than Thailand, I'd say those are the appropriate areas to do those things. If ladyboy was a religion, I'd suggest Thailand as the appropriate place to study.

Well anything religion based is a waste of time. If you'd be doing strictly for sociological curiosity then I could see it being less a waste of time.

True, anything anyone does is a waste of time. In 100 years there will barely be any memory of it and for the vast majority in 500 no one will even know or care that we ever existed.

i agree, but i would like examples of things that aren't a "waste of time."

the only one i can think of is
Quote :
"spend time helping others in a 3rd world land (peace corps, habitat, something like that)"

i mean i find religion truely inspiring and interesting.
i would adore it.

so i do not think it would be a "waste of time". for me.

[Edited on July 17, 2009 at 12:55 PM. Reason : wait...did you think i meant i was "looking" for a religion to adhere to by doing that??]

It wouldn't be then. In some weird way I wanted to say that one day you would realize it to be a waste of time, but nothingness will keep us all from knowing anything anyway.

^ Well not exactly. If it's the religions themselves that you're interested in, then imo it would be a waste of time as they are all exactly 100% bullshit. Now if it's sociological elements that go along with them, ie the people that adhere you're interested in and what makes them tick and buy into it, then it would at least be a somewhat interesting endeavor and wouldn't really be a waste of time.

Actually, it could make a pretty good book...

take a train trip on the 'orient express'

muck around in europe ostensibly backpacking but with unlimited budge lifeline

build a completely secluded unconnected hidden place to live and disappear for a few years (i'd bring a few select people along to join me) or rather travel with nothing but cash and "get off the grid" and pop up somewhere interesting.

take a trans-atlantic cruise, take a trans-pacific cruise, go through both major world canals (panama and suez) (around the world?)

visit the south pole arctic station for a season.

Visit Stonehenge / Spend a week at the Louvre (to be included in above european escapades)

hit up the other great wonders of the world

go back to Hong Kong for part of a year.

these of course are all just activities, accomplishment wise, get married, have kids, hopefully have grandkids etc

-Live at the beach for at least a few months and surf
-Spend a month or two traveling Europe
-Play Madison Square Garden
-Bang a hot Azn
-Record a full length album, playing all instruments myself
-Multi-day Las Vegas bender where money is of no concern
-Write a huge check to a poverty stricken family in need

I'm sure I will think of more

That is a pretty cool concept....definitely makes the studio atmosphere more attainable for a lot of folks I'm sure. I guess I should have added to my list:

-Build a fully furnished studio in my home

Unfortunately voice is not my strongest instrument, so I would need to make up for it with other musical goodness on various instruments Still a very cool idea.
