It's going to be a weekend long event, and I had no input as to the date it will be held.

I found out today it is going to be the weekend of the Pittsburgh vs NCSU football game. That sucks b/c not only should it be a good game, I was inviting my cousin down from NJ for the game (he went to WVU and Pitt's their big rival).

Shouldn't there have been some type of discussion about when the bachelor party was going to be scheduled? (I'm a groomsman, its my sister's wedding).

there's no way you could roll out for the game (is it night or day) and then show back up later for more festivities?

I don't know anything about the bachelor party yet. My sister just told me when her fiance's brother is planning it. I don't know where it will be but considering the wedding is in Charlotte and they all live there or Morganton, there's slim to no chance it'll be anywhere near Raleigh.

And sorry, it should have been titled bachelor party planning etiquette.

I already skipped a "man" wedding shower, so I don't want to keep skipping these things and pissing off my sister.

Football game is TBA at this time

yeah, if its still in the works then you may as well throw it out that you have obligations.

why do you always sound like you have no backbone with your friends about planning shit?

yes, there's normally a discussion about the date

send everyone an email explaining the situation - maybe they can change things around or maybe they just don't like you

LOL. ThePeter, I assume you're talking about the ski trip thread i had in The Lounge

Anyways, in this case they're not my "friends". I don't know a damn person going on this bachelor party trip except the fiance and my brother.

Additionally, I know my brother wants to go to this football game as well. I told my sister I had plans to go to the football game (she knows I go to every home State football game)

^hey girl in the thread. I'm a real fan, not some bitch fairweather one (perhaps you are?)

well then just don't go. will your sister be mad? i mean it would be different if it was like your brother's bachelor party but if it was i'm assuming he would plan around football.

(oh and PS everyone just fyi my brother mistakenly told me the duke/ncsu football game was over thanksgiving and we almost rescheduled a family trip. hah. LUCKILY we are away over thanksgiving so everything worked out. WHEW. i too go to all the home football games).

you should reschedule for any team, including duke. I don't care if they're playing your mom's dick. i'd still be there rooting them on to beat that dick.

It's bad enough her wedding is Oct 17th, during football season.

Thank God NCSU's playing an away game then (BC) but I'll probably still miss it

"its my sister's wedding"

this stuck out to me.

the day i get married i would love for my brother to be part of the wedding as a groomsmen.
that being said, if he did not want to participate in the bachelor party or other activities of the sort it would not bother me one bit.

hell, his excuse could be "I just don't really feel like it" and it would be ok.

how does the groom would feel about it?

and this

made me chuckle.

I'm not sure how the Groom would feel. But if I skipped it, then I'm sure my brother would too. And that might piss off people in both families.

sounds like you aren't that close with your future brother-in-law.

Since it's really his party, i doubt he'd really care if you weren't there. At least if i'm putting myself in his shoes, that's how i'd feel.

as long as you're there for the wedding and in all the pictures and all that bridezilla bullshit, your sister will probably be fine with it.

[Edited on July 20, 2009 at 9:42 PM. Reason : maybe send him a bottle of good liquor or some shit as an olive branch. ]

that is kinda what i was gonna say. i mean, as a dude, i dont even know if i would want to be at my bro-in-laws bachelor party, especially if he is going to strip clubs and stuff. unless you guys got really close, it seems that the groom wouldnt care at either, unless he is a tool with no friends and just needs people to fill out the crew.

Why not see if they can have the party in raleigh. Football, then strip club?

He's a cool guy but we're not super close. Most of the time they've spent dating I was living in NYC whereas they were in Charlotte. That kind of hindered any opportunity to get real close.

also, you AND your brother are groomsmen? how many groomsmen does he have?

and wait, why would anyone other than him and you sister care whether you went or not? i mean maybe your parents would be mad at you for upsetting your sister, but why would anyone else in his family care?

i guess it all boils down to me not getting why the guy would care.

If I were the groom, I'd be happy that my bride's brother didn't come. I would try not to invite him in the first place.

I was a groomsman at my best friend's wedding last month. My friend invited his fiance's brother to be a groomsman, but we did not invite him to the bachelor party for two reasons:

1 - Her brother was only an acquaintance. We only invited the groom's best friends to the bachelor party, because it was his party and we wanted him to be completely at ease.
2 - We didn't want the bride to know what happened at the bachelor party

"Shouldn't there have been some type of discussion about when the bachelor party was going to be scheduled? (I'm a groomsman, its my sister's wedding)."

No. The only discussion should have been, "hey groom...what weekend is best for you?" Yeah, it's nice to check with everyone else and come up with a group plan, but overall the groom should have say so over when/where his bachelor party is. Plus, sometimes coming up with an overall group plan can be difficult when dealing with 5-10+ schedules. It's easier to just pick it, and roll with it. Whoever can come, great! Whoever can't, oh well--see you at the wedding (hopefully).

That said...you should try to go to your future BIL's bachelor party. Call him up, or email whatever and talk to him about it...see what you can work out, and hell there may be other groomsmen with conflicts. If you really can't hack it, then do what BobbyDigital said and send a nice bottle of liquor (and imma add cigars to the list) as an olive branch in your absence.

^yeah, could be a good move. I don't know anything else about the weekend, other than my sister's bachelorette party is the same weekend.

It will also depend on my brother's feelings I guess. If his mimic mine, it won't be a hard call.

And come to think of it, every bachelor party I've been to (where the bride had a brother) the brother of the bride didn't go (whether he was invited or not is beyond me).
