muscle[/thread]
8/1/2009 10:37:22 AM
i'm just doing cardio though....no weight training
8/1/2009 10:37:49 AM
Pay attention to the inches, not the pounds. You can gain muscle and lose fat. Muscle weighs more than fat.

i found this out a few months ago when i started jogging. your body isnt used to any type of exercise. so when you start walking/jogging, you are going to build muscle way faster in the beginning. you should notice your clothes getting looser despite what the scales say.its. all. good.
8/1/2009 10:38:51 AM
exactly. I never step on the scale. I just know that I had to buy a new belt last week because my old one is now too big.
8/1/2009 10:39:41 AM
i don't think i'd be gaining muscle in just a few days....right? i guess i should take my body measurements and watch that but with all this extra weight you'd think i'd lose some first before getting muscle. it is obvious that i know nothing about fitness. i just put on my ipod and run.
8/1/2009 10:40:04 AM
yes in just a few days, it is that quick.at least, it was that quick for me.
8/1/2009 10:40:32 AM
Also, try to do some resistance training or weights. By increasing your muscle mass, you will boost your metabolism and your bod wil naturally burn more calories.
8/1/2009 10:41:52 AM
meh....i just feel discouraged but i will take my measurements and stick with it. i feel like i look smaller, it's just when i step on the scale it kind of makes me sad
8/1/2009 10:41:53 AM
so(once again shows how little i know), in the beginning i gain muscle and that will eventually help burn off the fat?
8/1/2009 10:42:51 AM
i get on the scale no less than 5 times a day. believe me, i know what you mean about hating the scale. you gotta look at it like this: my jeans are falling off of me. the scale is not moving. either the jeans got bigger when i dried them, or i lost some weight in my hips and tummy.
8/1/2009 10:43:21 AM
Let your clothes be the judge of your fitness. My fat pants are indication that I need to work out more and eat less. Screw the scale.
8/1/2009 10:43:27 AM
8/1/2009 10:45:01 AM
stay away from the scale for like a week or two and then when you do jump back on, it will be that much more exciting.
8/1/2009 10:45:24 AM
the scale is evil. it summons me to it all the time just to let me know.measurement time it is....not that that will be encouraging either at this point!do you have to do resistance training or can i get away with just cardio?
8/1/2009 10:45:38 AM
i haven't been sexercising enough
8/1/2009 10:47:56 AM
when my GF started trying to get in shape again, I hid the scale in the attic.
8/1/2009 10:48:53 AM
If you can't do resistance/weight training, then try to mix it up with yoga or pole dance at least twice a week. This will give you definition in all the sexy places you want (abs, butt) and boost your metabolism. You don't want saggy muscles.
8/1/2009 10:49:09 AM
^^lolzthanks for all the advice. i was expecting to get flamed for this.[Edited on August 1, 2009 at 10:50 AM. Reason : ^]
8/1/2009 10:49:20 AM
i wish someone would throw my fucking scale out the god damned window i've seriously gotten on the scale 3 times since i got up...2 1/2 hours ago.
8/1/2009 10:50:27 AM
I gained 5 lbs in vegas! I feel the scale hate! HahaBut thank god my fat pants still exist.
8/1/2009 10:51:34 AM
8/1/2009 10:51:43 AM
it's the truth, and she ended up thanking me for it. you broads are obsessed with that damn scale, and in my opinion it is what makes you fail at your diets. You need to see immediate results, and you need to see results every day as well. It just doesn't work that way.
8/1/2009 10:51:48 AM
my stretchy yoga pants are my savior. they conform to my body no matter the size jeans=not so forgiving
8/1/2009 10:52:37 AM
I'm a fitness expert who specializes in sexercise...now taking appointments.
8/1/2009 10:53:30 AM
i think there is just more pressure with girls and their weight, that is why they are scale obsessed....numbers mean a lot to us and we want to see results quick. guys seem to have a more laid-back approach.
8/1/2009 10:54:19 AM
After starting abs/weights, I went from a 26.5 in waist to 24 in. Also lost 2 inches in the hips. I really recommend weights/resistance/core training for that extra oomph![Edited on August 1, 2009 at 10:57 AM. Reason : .]
8/1/2009 10:55:54 AM
NAW
8/1/2009 10:56:07 AM
I'm the kinda person that realizes that nothing comes without hard work and no results are immediate.
8/1/2009 10:56:21 AM
i was thinking some yoga or pilates....to stretch me out and give me some definition. my legs are all muscle from dancing, it's my belly that needs to be toned....A LOT.^you're a man, that's why you realize that. hence my theory of women vs. men and weight loss.[Edited on August 1, 2009 at 10:59 AM. Reason : ^]
8/1/2009 10:58:25 AM
Have you tried bikram (hot) yoga? It's fantastic for toning/stretching.
8/1/2009 11:00:55 AM
haven't tried it. i'm poor and unemployed so i can't pay for classes or gym memberships. just stuff i can do at home to a dvd or something.
8/1/2009 11:01:58 AM
Then yoga dvds, running, power walking and abs are key.
8/1/2009 11:03:42 AM
8/1/2009 11:08:10 AM
called my dad(marathon runner).....he confirmed that i'm gaining muscle and to focus on measurements. i feel better now knowing that i'm not just getting fatter. i would like the scale to eventually say 125 though...it will be a glorious day!
8/1/2009 11:09:43 AM
I KEEP TELLIN YA SON.NAW.
8/1/2009 11:10:59 AM
How much are you trying to lose? Are you adjusting your diet as well?
8/1/2009 11:12:30 AM
Your lean mass(non-fat) can dictate how much weight you should try to lose. For a while, I was trying to get to 115 lbs. Then my trainer told me that since my lean mass is 111 lbs, 115 would be a dangerous weight.Do you have any friends who work in fitness?
8/1/2009 11:15:19 AM
25 pounds....i would like to be back to 120-125. i have cut the sugar out of my diet and have been eating salads and fruits. cutting down on carbs is hard for me but i am trying to do my best. i have very little restraint when it comes to food so that is my downfall. i loooove sugar and carbs.
8/1/2009 11:17:12 AM
You may want to try a 7-day sugar detox diet to try and break your sugar cravings. These work. You may feel sluggish, but it may be what you need to break the cravings.
8/1/2009 11:20:47 AM
^good idea. i will try anything at this point. will it give me headaches?
8/1/2009 11:21:18 AM
be careful with the fruits too, as most of them have a pretty high carb content
8/1/2009 11:21:30 AM
you should do a pole dancing class lila because I think it would help your burlesque routine, too. My friend was telling me it was the best workout she had ever had.
8/1/2009 11:23:19 AM
8/1/2009 11:24:09 AM
I own a workout pole and they really get your ass in shape. Total body workout. And very fun!
8/1/2009 11:25:23 AM
thank you everybody for all your help! the pole class sounds like something i would love...get me fit and to come out of my shell a bit.
8/1/2009 11:26:17 AM
come out of your shell? did I not see pictures of you with pasties on your nipples? if that is in the shell, then i want to move to that shell.
