Besides it being 16 years old. 1994 Camry Sedan, 4dr, LE, Auto, High Mileage, normally runs great! no leaks.

It seems to be very sluggish after first starting. It is unusually and noticebly slow to accelerate and when you push down the pedal, it's response is delayed and under the expected performance. The tach does NOT show a heavy oscillation in RPM but it does sound a bit like its missing. Also the engine does not look like it is heating up completely to its normal spot on the heat gauge, even after 10-15 mins of driving. I have changed the plugs and wires, and the thermostat about a year ago. I was considering putting a new distributor and rotor button in it before this happend (since i didnt when I changed the plugs and wires). Finally the Check Engine light comes on for a couple days and then goes off again since this condition has arose. Any Ideas?

yeh it is pre "free reads" at the Auto Parts shops. Therefore I'd have to plug it into a mechanics machine and I didnt really want to pay that kinda cash. Unless you have a way around paying a mechanic to plug it in for me?

You jumper a connector, and the Check Engine light will blink out the code.

Anyway, go ahead an replace that rotor/distributer, and check the condition of the wires, especially anywhere they might be laying on exhaust pipe or metal or water lines. At night, spray them with a mist of water from a spray bottle and watch for sparks when you rev it. It'd also be worth it to pull a spark plug and make sure they're not fouled out. There's plenty else it could be, but that's a good place to start.

if it needed plugs/plug wires, chances are it needed a cap/rotor button as well. do what ^ listed to check the code though. probably a misfire on one or more cylinders. could be a clogged cat too being high mileage assuming it's never been changed.

might sound elementary, but i assume it's got a newish or at least clean air filter?

Fixed it. The Temperature Control Sending unit was replaced along with the Distributor Cap and Rotor Button. My guess is that the sending unit was saying the engine wasn't hot enough calling for more gas, causing it to run rich and have slow acceleration. Also put some Lucas Oil Tune Up/Fuel injector cleaner in the tank. Check Engine light gone, heat problem fixed, acceleration normal.
