Depends on why they like cats.

If they have a cat because it's cute and fluffy and matches the couch I am suspect.

If they have a cat because they are low maintenance and still fairly interactive then that's ok. I'm not a cat person but the boyfriend's cat is very dog like, so I can deal with her. I taught her to walk on a leash, put up with being brushed, and let me clean her teeth. I could probably bathe her, but she's not smelly so I'm not motivated. She'll bring you toys when she wants to play, so that's good too (she's 7, so it's not a kitten thing).

our cats greet us at the door when we get home after being out all day. they're about as friendly as dogs, yet I don't have to worry about them shitting all over the carpet if I'm working late or have to go out of town for a couple days.

Cats are fine on their own for unsupervised weekend trips, but more importantly they are fine going to the bathroom by themselves (as in you don't have to wake up early for them, or take them out in the rain or cold), and are fine with small spaces like a modest apartment like I had when I got mine.

Don't get me wrong, I do like both dogs & cats & used to be more of a dog person, but having worked at a vet clinic for 3 years, my appreciation for cats relative to dogs has grown just because cats have been in my experience so much less likely to inappropriately defecate or urinate or bite people unprovoked.

I love dogs and cats for different reasons. My fiance and I have 3 cats (didn't want more than 2 but she came home with another kitten one day :mad and we are planning on getting a dog as soon as we buy a house.

All 3 of the cats run to the door every time we get home. All 3 of the cats sleep on the bed or near the bed every night. None of the cats has every peed/shat anywhere beside the litter box. All 3 of them are very loving to us. They don't smell and you can leave for days at a time without worrying about them.

I can't wait to get a dog but I will always like cats too.

Actually, more people than you'd think will walk their cats on leashes. I've never been able to get my cats to walk on a leash, but if you start them really early (like 3-4 months old) then they can learn it and love it.

If my cats could tolerate the whole "collar + leash" thing, then I know for a fact they'd love walking outside. They practically jump through the screen whenever we open the windows.
