As this is a tech thing,and I want to discuss a technical principle, im putting this here.

I have to totally agree. Im suprised this hasnt happened sooner. Its so easy to do a ddos, but also to prevent one. And many sites im sure dont have the equipment to stop it. Good firewall is about all you need. And good coordination with your ISP. While I can understand some of these sites and others wanting to help each other out (google), unless they have a vested interest in the site, why not screw them over as well. I could easily see google saying 'ok, you want help, we will buy you(at our price), otherwise you are competing with our service we wanna start.'  8/9/2009 11:04:44 PM
