I think this will be my 3rd n00b question since being here at State, but I was wondering how many of you were able to join a class even if the class was wait listed? I'm 10th on the list for MA 242 with a teach who has great reviews. yeah, it sucks. So, are professors generally conservative about their listed class limit here at State?
Thanks......
p.s. sorry if this has been asked 343048092830 times b4 on here

Thankfully, MA242 has a common textbook (unless that's changed???). Agreed, show up the first day of class, see what their waitlist policy is, and if all else fails, change sections before window closes to do so. 8/10/2009 7:33:54 AM |

the calculus book is the same for all teachers so that students can use the same book for 141, 241, and 242.
show up to class, talk to the prof about it. keep showing up. some profs will work you in as long as there's enough seats in the room. 8/10/2009 7:53:46 AM |

unfortunately the caps on DE classes are usually hard caps which makes even less sense to me 8/11/2009 7:42:11 AM |

e-mail them and ask if they will add you. I don't remember if I was first on the list for my HI 491 class in the spring, but I needed to take it to graduate and e-mailed the teacher and asked him if he would add me since it was my last requried course. He allowed the cap to be raised by 1 and then told 5 people who were on the wait list the first day of the class that he couldn't add anyone else.
When you e-mail the instructor just explain to them how if you don't take this class you won't qualify for another class that is requred and then you won't be able to graduate on time.

^ yeah, usually the e-mail or talk after class would get you the add. However this semester It may not be so easy. I have had 2 different professors so they can't add above cap this year and overhead a department head talking to someone about how classes are super tight and they can't exceed class sizes because of budget cuts.
Got me worried, im on the waitlist for all my classes :/ 8/18/2009 1:32:19 AM |

^I had to do that because I missed my sign up day. The other instructor told me he couldn't raise the cap to his class for me. This semester I made sure to sign up on the right day and then I had no problem. 8/19/2009 2:59:03 AM |

most teachers are genuinely excited when students want to be in their class
you shouldn't have problems getting in
