Puns reputation as the lowest form of humor is undeserved, they require some wit, and often make people laugh. This puts them above several common types of jokes in my mind, including ones where you just bitch about something (Seinfeld) and ones where you just refer to something everyone knows about (eg. all that 80s throwback humor).
