new album from brand new on sept. 22.

new song "At the Bottom" is posted http://www.myspace.com/brandnew. thoughts? it's taking me a lot longer to get into their newer stuff. i've given up on them ever returning to their YFW sound so i'm trying not to hate it.

i'd say that's a safe assumption. they, like their audience, have to grow up sometime.

I absolutely loved The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me, and though it took me a few listens, I'm totally sold on At The Bottom as well.

[Edited on August 13, 2009 at 6:36 PM. Reason : I actually don't particularly care for Your Favorite Weapon though]

I think if I'd listened to Your Favorite Weapon when I was younger, I'd have appreciated it more. Not to mention that I went from Deja Entendu and then went and listened to YFW for the first time.

I listened to the albums in reverse order

so I listened to Your Favourite Weapon last but I still love them all

Jessie sounded a lot like Kurt Cobain on the youtube videos I saw for the new songs

I hope thew new album is good . . the new Thrice did not impress me

agreed, although I listened to Your Favorite Weapon when I was drunk recently and thoroughly enjoyed it (nostalgia probably had a lot to do with it).

the first time I heard YFW was beginning of my sophomore year of high school.. It still to this day remains one of my favorite albums - and I think it's their best one still

but I'm excited they have new stuff coming out

TGADARIM is a fuckin classic album.

At the Bottom is alright -- nothing too hot but then again I didn't think Sowing Season was all that special when it came out . . . could bode well for Daisy.

I am enjoying it very much, but it doesn't seem as "together" as Deja Entendu and The Devil and God.

its so depressing

i'm having trouble listening to it since i want to stay in my current jolly mood

however on monday it was perfect since i was fucking tired and the weather so shitty

their last album is kind of the same way

So the entire album is downloadable via torrent now? I can't wait to hear it if thats the case...wasn't too impressed with At the Bottom when I first heard it, but its growing on me now. Heard a couple other songs on youtube and wasn't that impressed, then again it wasn't cd quality. I'd be VERY surprised if this album is able to match up with TDAGARIM, because that album was freaking money.

it is clear that most of this album was not written by Jesse Lacey.

Just downloaded it...first run through I'd rate it a B-. There are about 4-5 standout songs so far...I'm hoping the quality will be better when the actual cd is out (specifically on the song "sink" because on the torrent I downloaded you can't make out any of the lyrics). At The Bottom, Bought a Bride, Noro, Sink, and the intro are my favorites so far. Doesn't match up to their old albums though, at least after just a couple listens.

^ my favorite songs on this album are Daisy, Bought a Bride, At The Bottom, and You Stole.

I rate this album a B+

But maybe that's just because Brand New is my 2nd favorite band

Can't wait to see them in Charlotte November

Actually considering I haven't been able to stop listening to this album for over a week I feel like I'd have to rate it an A.

I really like it as a whole and think at least half of the album is insanely good. Much higher percentage than the average album released these days

I'm gonna pull out my that guy card and say that I saw them around 2001 with about 10 other people at the Duke Coffeehouse and that they are one of the bands that I never really outgrew. Maybe that's because each album has been a step forward for them.

Daisy is more raw than The Devil and God...

I'm digging Vices, You Stole, Daisy, and Noro.

I think musically it could surpass TDAG, but I think Vinnie's lyrics are lacking in some of the songs.

speaking as someone who's been quasi-into them since your favorite weapon dropped (my freshman year at ncsu lol), this album is completely garbage.

it may be the most unlistenable thing I've heard this year

srsly.

^Yeah, I don't totally understand that quote either. They don't do it often.

For me, screaming was an acquired taste that began to sour badly after listening to too much mediocre metal/hardcore garbage. Now I can stand it in moderation.

For what it's worth, I like the contrast in Vices between the softly sung lines and the screaming. Maybe I'm just a sucker for Jesse's vocal range.

Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and throw out that Vices is the best intro out of any of their other albums...

"vocal range" does not mean how loudly or quietly you can sing.

It's no Devil and God, but after 20+ listens, I am in no way disappointed. The only thing I want more of is Jesse's writing.

^^Nor did I say that it did. Those were two separate thoughts, but yeah I should have been clearer. The guy sounds good in all vocal registers.

You Stole? Really? It has its moments, but otherwise a dull track. Big fan of Bought a Bride, Vices, and Noro. Here's how I'd rank their albums:

TDAGARIM > or = Deja > Daisy > YFW
