I like them too, that truck is exactly what I've been looking for. I've been approved for financing and set everything in motion, but I haven't signed anything binding me to spending well over the $21k over the next few years. That's a lot of money, and I want you guys to be assholes and tell me why I shouldn't.

On a related but completely unhelpful note, there's a bright blue one that always parked down in a particular spot of the coliseum deck close to the theatre.

Where's/what's the mileage? Found it, 6k

V ? The report that was run on 8/14/2009 says it's at 5,977 miles. And the blue one? It used to be parked in those two separated spots right beside the first upper side entrance of the coliseum deck. I've heard over time that you'll never get a deal/steal from Carmax and pay an ok price, but they're worth it as far as correct history/up-to-date maintenance is concerned.

^ where?

Isn't Carmax ripping me off somehow? Shouldn't I just get a loan for half that much from the bank and pull a baller truck off craigslist? How about the truck, what's wrong with it?

I've never thought that a dealership should make a few G's for spending an hour or two on paperwork and giving a car a detail. Find a private party and save some money. Buying from stealerships is a rookie move.

I'd go the other way and get a 4wd, little worse gas mileage but would hold it's value better. I'd also buy private party.

it'd also be tough to find one w/ that low of mileage as a private party sale

however, i wouldn't let mileage scare me off from a tacoma as long as it's in good condition

I had a red '08 and loved it but go ahead and get used to a few things

1- its not going to get much faster, period without spending $$$$
2- the paint is going to chip all to hell, in 8k miles i was super dissapointed with the amount of chips

Those things are ugly as sin. Other than that, you really can't go wrong with a Tacoma. Buy a 4WD.

Damn. Now that is a truck...

I meant that in response to my experience with having driven a Ford Ranger with ~100hp.

Get a 4wd, buy private party, and if you're good and ready to spend 21K, limit your budget to 15K and stick to it. You'll thank yourself later when your monthly payments are lower.

bought that this past weekend. Wanted a new one but they said they couldn't keep any 09's on the lot. It's an 07 with about 18k miles on it. Toyota of Wilmington wanted 26,999 for it but I got them down to 23,100 which is just under trade in value. KBB showed 28,999 for the price to expect from a dealer.

There's a LOT of vehicle to be had at that price level son. I'd spend the money on something else or as ScHpEnXeL said, spend half as much on something else that will do the exact same job.

Shit son, get a C5 corvette or something.

well i do specifically need a truck

i want a v6, manual, 4-door extended cab and a 6' bed. I like them low because it makes it easier to haul band gear in and out of, as well as the motorcycle. the only thing it doesn't have that i wanted was 4x4, but i can do without that. even aside from looks, this truck fits the bill better than anything else i've found on craigslist or otherwise.

it's also damn near brand new but some other sap already did me the favor of taking the "driven off the lot" finance hit. also, it's a toyota and will likely last well into the next 10 years.

there's a lot of good points made in this thread, i definitely understand i could have a looot of truck (or like neus said a truck and a boat) for that price, but there's something to be said for such a new vehicle

there are plenty of trucks for half the price of that one that will do what you need. hell, probably a lot cheaper than that even.

Here is what I want:

6-Cyl
Manual
4-door Extended/Crew cab
6ft bed (i.e. no stubby beds you see on a lot of crew cabs)
4x4

all except the 4x4 are non-negotiable

I am very open to suggestions! I like the sport style, eventually any truck I buy would be slightly lowered (if needed for access, not for style) and sway-barred. This truck has it all minus the 4x4, it's nearly new, and it looks good. I have been searching craigslist, carmax, and local dealers for months and have yet to find something that satisfies me, but I haven't really consulted you fine folks until now. What do you suggest in both trucks and where to find them?

there's also something to be said for twenty-one thousand dollars, dude

a truck like mine would do anything you want and you could get one like it for about $4k. yes, it would be older. no, it wouldn't have all those bells and whistles. yes, it would have a lot of miles, but, hell, you could put a new engine and trans in it and still come out waaaaaaay ahead

it's all about what $21k is to you. for me, that truck isn't worth it. not when there are so many other options out there. at the end of the day, it's just a truck. please spend your money as you see fit, but i would advise you to really give it some thinking and look at your options. i'd rather have my truck to haul shit and a decent gas saver than that tacoma and i could get both for <$21k.

just my $.02, dude

I'm pretty sure the guy who originally bought it had that situation, as it looks like it went to an auto auction before winding up on carmax's lot. I personally wouldn't buy it, go private party.

Manual and ext./crew cab is a very tough combination to come by for a newer vehicle. I think you have found a good match in the X-Runner, but I would not eveeeeer buy a vehicle from Carmax. They are pretty much criminals in the way they low-ball people for their trade-ins and then try to turn around and sell people's vehicles for dealershipesc prices. Go for the Toyota if you want it, but wait and try to find one third party or one with a few more miles.

ive heard it go both ways for the trade ins. as far as what they want on their lots and what they have, ive always thought they would give more money(closer to value) on like an accord or something of the like, than they would a durango or or something similar to that.
ive sold a few cars to them and just ran away with the money, cause I pretty much stole them anyway

i agree, it's a better idea than blowing $24K on a truck to haul shit in. i mean, you can accomplish the pulling part with any number of cheap trucks or vans.. hell, even a trailer behind pretty much anything would get the job done.

i understand wanting it to help your band and all that..but are they gonna be helping you pay for it?? don't think so.

you could spend $10K on a 3 series bmw, $10K on a boat and $4K on the truck theduke has for sell and be way way ahead of where you'd be just buying this truck.

but i think you understand that now so i'll shut up

they offered/bought my friends mercedes for an awesome price. it was basically the kbb suggested price for a private sell. i was pretty impressed.
