so I just got my new rig up and running, but I keep getting a "cmos checksum bad" error when I boot. I can bypass this and just use default settings in my bios, but can't seem to figure out whats causing it. my setup is:
i7 920 processor
msi x58m mobo
msi gtx 260 graphics
seagate 7200.12 barracuda hdd
crucial ballistix ram (3 x 1GB)
lsu 650 watt psu

any ideas?

So when you boot you get the cmos error everytime. What do you have to do to bypass it? After you bypass it does it boot into windows? It could be your battery on your mobo is bad or your memory is weird. Can you run memtest to verify that your ram is in good working order?

Try:
Check the timings and voltage for your ram since you say you used default settings.
Check to make sure the ram is in the correct slots for the mobo.

sometimes when I boot I get the mobo screen, and it says press del to enter bios, or tab to post, but either way it freezes afterwards, most times I get the checksum error, and I can press f1 to get into the bios, or f2 to boot windows
