because they're modeled after insects that you see in every day life. why do you want to see something realistic in a sci-fi movie anyways?

also, i'm sure fox decided what previous film to mention by JC. if i were them, i would put titanic up there too. made a remarkable amount of money for them. also the terminator and alien movies weren't all financed by fox. i'm sure they wanted to put something up there that was labeled as their own.

i guess i'm the only one who things this looks fucking amazing...

^ if you can show me proof that farscape accomplishes the action sequences that avatar inevitably will then that's one thing. but cgi allows for a much broader range of movement, stunt coordination, and acrobatics.

also avatar will be 3D in imax. i'm sure it's quite a bit easier to streamline cgi into both of these formats.

lastly the more i think about it, the more i think JC probably wanted it to look UNREALISTIC. it's definitely got a fantasy vibe that we've never seen from him before. the luminescence and variable lighting accomplished through digital work lend to a more fantastical world.

I would like to comment on the actual trailer not so much the concept of the movie.

I dont think I have seen a trailer so well done with almost no actual sound coming from the scenes shown in the trailer.

given that this movie is james cameron's baby i would expect nothing less than a spectacular cinematic adventure. while the cgi seemed questionable in the trailer, i refuse to believe the movie will be released with poor cgi (especially given the reactions from people who saw the comic con footage and the hype surrounding this movie) i really wish that the raleigh imax was doing the 16 minute preview tomorrow as I think that would be the best indication on what to expect.

either way i'm still very excited about this movie.
