Couldn't believe there wasn't a thread yet. Woody Harrelson's going to be awesome. Bill Murray is casted as a zombie?

It'll be hard pressed to be a better "funny zombie movie" than this:

I'm curious to see it just because Woody Harrelson used his method acting in it as an excuse to attack a photographer.

The trailers made it look like a worse version of Shaun of the Dead, with more cheap sight gags.

i went to see the sneak preview last week, and i wasn't impressed. shaun of the dead still reigns king. there were some funny parts but not enough to save it from being a dumb movie. the guy that played the lead role, jesse eisenberg, is just a poor man's michael cera, so that was really annoying. just because you're awkward doesn't mean you're funny.

Fuck that noise.

This is a really solid little comedy. And make no mistake. It IS a comedy not a zombie movie. It's pretty useless to compare it to SHAUN OF THE DEAD, as that film is a 100% pure zombie movie. It's funny, sure, but it's a zombie movie.

ZOMBIELAND is a comedy. It just happens to take place post-zombie apocalypse.

It's also pretty righteously funny and inventive and real. There are some minor complaints to be had, sure, but this is a good, fun movie.

Shaun of the Dead is not a 100% pure Zombie film

Its a comedy that happens to occur with zombies.

Whatever. It's a zombie movie that's funny!

That said, if your only point of comparison for Zombieland is Shaun, then you need to see more movies.

Where did I compare the two?

I havent seen Zombieland so I am not going to compare them.

I was just pointing out how stupid it is to say Shaun of the Dead is a 100% Zombie film when its clearly not.

One of the tag lines from the movie was: A romantic comedy. With zombies.

I enjoyed this film, but not nearly as much as I liked Shaun of the Dead.

************* slightly spoilerish info below ***********

I will say this. There is a really cool surprise cameo in the film of epic proportion that nerds will gush over. And I hope that it doesn't get ruined for anyone, because being a surprise made it that much cooler.

*****end spoiler*****

I'd give this movie a solid 7/10.

Has one of the coolest opening scenes ever.

just wanted to put some more room between this post and the spoiler, i don't want to be too tempted/accidentally read it.

having said that, i think Shaun of the Dead is EXTREMELY overrated, it is still a pretty damn good movie, but nowhere near as good/the comedy-zombie second coming of Christ that people make out to be. Thats not to say that this will be better, i haven't seen it, but it looks pretty good to me.

I've heard it's pretty much a road movie.

I really like how it takes place in a world where the zombie-ness is established and it's not new. from what i hear.

want2see.

Loved it. To quote Robert Hamburger, "I popped like 200 boners" from watching this movie. Get this shaun of the dead crap out of here. No one cares.

Saw it last night, it was awesome.

The cameo was really well done and unexpected, and the way it played out was hilarious.

As mentioned a few posts up, the intro and opening credits were badass (Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls = awesome way to open a zombie movie). In fact the music throughout the entire movie was well done.

The humor was well placed (You get only 45% power) and the jokes were great.

The only thing about it though was that [MILD SPOILER TO FOLLOW]

Most of the places they went still had power

[/MILD SPOILER].

It only really bothered me though because I'm a zombie film snob. Since this was more of a comedy and not a serious zombie survival movie, it is totally acceptable.

In short, A+++++ WOULD WATCH AGAIN!

legatic brought up a similar point about Michael Cera and Zombieland, he would have been perfect for the role. Cera could never get a girl as hot as Emma Stone though, Eisenberg totally could.

Someone is getting their hair brushed back over their ear later rofl <3

I loved the movie, LOLed the entire way through and might even buy it. Bill Murray had an excellent cameo but it was kinda obvious how the joke was going to end and I loved Tallahassee, he is such a bamf.

Just saw it. I gotta say, solidly clever throughout the movie. I rather liked the recurring theme (and corresponding visual effect) of "the rules." Nice touch.

The Bill Murray cameo was awesome, too.

Yeah, it was definitely more on the drama/comedy side than a survival zombie movie. There were TONS of “logical” problems with it, if you are going to take that angle, but that’s very clearly not what the movie is about.

I loved the slow-motion shots though, they were very well done... movies need more of those.

if i were to compare it to shaun of the dead, I’d say this blows it out of the water.
