I had small surgery the other day and was given pain killer, i think hydrocodone or vicodine
anyways after being on it for 2 days i think im hopelessly addicted and may need to seek rehab

has anyone had this experience, obviously im exaggerating but it seems to be a quietly addictive drug

If this is serious... (Chit chat lolzz)

I had major surgery over Christmas this year, and they loaded me up with 1 week of morphine in the hospital, a 2 week supply of percoset to take home (Stronger version of what you have) and then a 1 month supply of vicodin after that.

As long as you properly pace your dosage and slowly wean yourself off it by taking 1 every 4 hours, then 6, then 8.. 12... and maybe replacing it with Advil after that, there shouldn't be any addiction problems. Trust me, if anyone here should be addicted, it should be me and I didn't have any issues getting off it.

i got hooked up oxycotin after i had complications with my tonsilectomy.

i was waking up every 6 hours to take two of those things. and they kept refilling my prescription.

my sister ended up taking them away from me.

honestly maybe the pills i took were shitty but i've taken percosets like 3 times and those didndt do anything. i took a vikoden(sp?) once and it made my stomach upset(might have been the booze) and i threw up...i took some "di-'something' morphine" pill once and i didnt remember what i did the last 5 hours i was awake...i took some hydrocondone after having my wisdom teeth pulled, and i guess they did ok at helping the pain but def never made me addicted...i think you have to not mind taking pills to get addicted. beer and pills are one of those things i hate that lots of people enjoy cause i dont

^^^^?

People have different susceptibilities to different drugs. Just because you didn't get addicted doesn't mean other people wouldn't be at risk. Also, properly pacing your dose and weaning yourself off is some great advice, but it's precisely what can be so difficult for some folks.

I've never properly taken a prescribed opiate in my life, and I've certainly never bothered to wean myself off. But my one saving grace is that when the bottle is empty, it's empty...I move on. This is partly because I'm too lazy to track down more and partly because I've never been prescribed enough to develop a serious dependency.

Anyway, I wouldn't be so cavalier with the "I was fine so you'll be fine" bit.

All that said, this lafta guy will likely be fine.

You should just enjoy it while you have a prescription.

You've been on it for 2 days.

Give it a day or so before you declare yourself hopelessly addicted.

is this thread serious? i can talk this topic all day. been there, done that, and have since counseled others on addiction (opiates in particular)

heroin can get you almost immediately. i don't buy into the "one time and you're hooked" thing, but it can get you after about 3 days in a row of mild use.

vicodin is much more subtle, real actual physical addiction takes much longer to show signs.

any responsible doc will have you off the stuff well before its an issue

some people use the term 'hooked' loosely.

not to slight your experience, but that hardly counts as addiction. unless there's more to the story, the inability to stop taking 10mg oxycodone/6h was just a lack of willpower

heh, first time i've heard that word in a while. reminds me of a time when i was talking to a girl at a bar while i was decently drunk (the point where i'll start using big/unusual words), and i used this word, and she just gave me a weird ass look. screwed that one up.

That's pretty much like saying WoW is not addictive. It may not be physically addictive, whatever the fuck that means...I've never been physically addicted to anything. But yeah, if you smoke weed everyday...you want to smoke weed everyday. I don't think it's that harmful, and it can potentially improve the quality of your life. If you have the lingering thought, "I kind of want to get high right now," at any given point, is that addiction?

"When human subjects were administered daily oral doses of 180-210 mg of THC - the equivalent of 15-20 joints per day - abrupt cessation produced adverse symptoms, including disturbed sleep, restlessness, nausea, decreased appetite, and sweating. The authors interpreted these symptoms as evidence of physical dependence. However, they noted the syndrome's relatively mild nature and remained skeptical of its occurrence when marijuana is consumed in usual doses and situations. 61 Indeed, when humans are allowed to control consumption, even high doses are not followed by adverse withdrawal symptoms."

Let's just say hypothetically, since this is a public message board, that I had to stop using a certain substance in order to pass a...certain screening for a job. After doing so, I had a difficult time sleeping, and was somewhat irritable at times. I also wanted to use said substance, every day, and still do...weeks later. Withdrawal? Seems like it. Addictive? Shit yeah. Harmful? Nah.

this isn't even worth arguing about. if you knew what withdrawal was you would agree that marijuana is not in fact addictive.

Apparently, I don't. I don't do drugs that are considered addictive. I only have my own experience to judge from. When you stop using something, and still want it weeks later, what do you call that? Just be honest and admit that there's some amount of mental addiction that comes along with it.

It's important to differentiate between dependence and addiction.

^^^^Back to the point dnl made, if you ate french fries every day for 4 months straight (or longer), that can probably be considered addiction. It's just the whole idea of "Wow - things would be a lot better right now if I smoked a bowl." call it addiction, call it fun, call it what you want. You can stop if you need to, but you won't want to.
