keep an eye on craigslist for baby clothes deals and give her a shit load of baby clothes...i hear craigslist is good for that cause mothers are always wanting to help out other females
8/21/2009 3:16:18 PM
yeah but recycled baby clothes as a gift is a bit of stretch
8/21/2009 3:17:15 PM
Yeah that's pretty tacky.

i kinda wanted to do the small stuff because i thought it would be fun to decorate the basket and arrange all the stuff in it. However, it seems like people are less inclined to buy the bigger stuff due to cost.

Ummm... most babies have a tendency to ruin clothes (spills, tears, etc) which is fine if the mom decides to get secondhand clothes, but as a gift at a shower it's beyond tacky and yes, it would be obvious.

what kind of high chair is it?i think the basket is definitely a good idea too. i could give you ideas of other things to put in it helloooo working at a baby boutique for 2 years lol. nipples, brushes, diapers, wipes, burp cloths, butt paste, etc are all good and NEEDED things! swaddles are also back in style (haha) and they actually serve a purpose. i think they even sell them at target now. i like the basket idea because it can be really cute but also practical. you didn't mention it but if you WERE thinking about doing any clothes it is usually better to think about when the baby is going to be born and then buy things in the 6-12 or even 12-18 mo range. apparently new moms get tons of 0-3 (and even 6-12) stuff and babies grow out of 0-3 like really really fast.p.s. clearly i don't have kids. i just spent the past almost 2 years working with people who do haha. i can tell you one thing for sure: kids smell funny. Sorry, didn't see the edit until after I posted. I mean, it's a good concept, but as for a formal gift at a shower, it's just not terribly appropriate (unless the mom-to-be says otherwise, of course, but I've never heard of that).Okay, on topic, I think either one would be fine. You can never go wrong with stuff babies always need and go through (such as the small-items basket) because, well, they will eventually need more. The high chair, if it's in your price range, would obviously be appreciated because it's on the registry, but I've found that usually family members shell out on the bigger gifts at baby showers. And if no one gets the high chair, the basket will still be appreciated anyway.[Edited on August 21, 2009 at 3:25 PM. i don't have kids but: diapers, diapers, diapersMost of the baby showers in my family are diaper parties, I'm sure somebody always gets some clothes and other shit too. You probably won't get all the wimminz aaaww'n like baby clothes and such but I the parents would be appreciative. At our wedding shower we got a towel cake (basically a "cake" made from towels) it seemed like a pretty cool idea. You could probably make/buy a diaper cake (that sounds nasty, like the SNL edible diaper commercial )[Edited on August 21, 2009 at 3:25 PM. Reason : ]

i dont have kids, but my sisters have a few. we love doing the whole diaper cake thing, and then decorating it with blankets, onesies, bottles, etc. it's prety easy to do, but if you do it large enough you can fit a bunch of neat stuff in it.just an example(you could do what ^ said, or you could do diapers.... i've never tried towels)[Edited on August 21, 2009 at 3:27 PM. i prefer to give gift cardsthat way they can go get shit they didnt realize they'd need, or just help covering the cost of shit they were already going to buy.sometimes a physical gift makes people feel like they have to keep or use it, even if they have no purpose for it. it should be said i also picked up the gift on the way to the baby shower

at maya's baby shower, one of amna's friends bought us a very nice stroller. i don't remember what anybody else got us, but i will always remember and be grateful to her.

no clothing, used or othewise. Nothing used period. Thanks for offering to help Khcadwal. Either way i decide to go ill stick to buying the things on the registry. I don't like the high chair she picked out on the registry but its not my baby. She also asked for some really expensive baby monitors so i was thinking about doing those instead because they were within the budge. Basket just seems so much cuter though, which ill add the swaddler to if i do it. I looked at the really big stuff (stoller, car seat, playpen) and i can't afford those :/ [Edited on August 21, 2009 at 3:36 PM. Reason : skn]
