I only missed one, but I was surprised to see certain cities on here and others not.

got the top 12, plus 2 others. You are right, lots of po-dunk places making the list. Very surprised Hickory didn't make it.

Now that you mention it, Hickory is 50,000+ so it should be.

Matthews is only 22,000

Boone is somewhere around 14,000. I was surprised to find out it was that small.

got 17. i knew i was missing charlotte minis. huntersville kannapolis and some other place.

i know the top 11 in order right off the bat. was surprised there was no goldsboro or elizabeth city.

basically you just needed to take the triangle the triad charlotte asheville jacksonville wilmington and fayetteville and add the major suburbs and thats it. other than rocky mount/wilson

[Edited on August 22, 2009 at 12:51 AM. Reason : this would be much easier for the other states i've lived in (ca fl and tn)]

17. Missed Jacksonville (I was thinking military bases but it slipped my mind), Huntersville (where the hell is Huntersville and where did it get 45k residents?), and Kannapolis (oops).

huntersville is just north of charlotte. it's where north meck high school is, and for years it was the largest high school in the state. a new high school opened last year in that area, and another is opening next year.

kannapolis isn't really a charlotte mini, it's like 30 minutes or so north of downtown charlotte...

I associate too many places near Charlotte as being a part of Charlotte, I was wasting some time until I figured out I should not be doing that. I missed the 3 smallest, but I'm not sure extra time would have helped. But 17 isn't so bad. I'll admit I did a lot of guess work towards the end though.

I got the top 13 and Chapel Hill, which was 16.

The only one of the ones I missed that I have ever really heard of more than just in passing was Rocky Mount. I guess they're western nc cause I don't really know much about that part of the state.

Top 16 and 18, 19. Somehow just forgot Burlington and was mildly surprised K-town was that large.

Also wondered why Hickory and Greenville weren't there.

I somehow misspelled gastonia and asheville repeatedly, and it didn't accept my answers as a result. I got the other 18.

I typed Hickory about 14 different ways trying to get it to take.

This.

In the same vein, Cary was the very last place I thought of.
