After a long weekend of interviews, charrettes and presentations, the news has been released...the Durham architecture firm, Duda/Paine, will be the designers of the Talley Student Center Renovation. Too bad they are a bunch of CHEATERS! I know firsthand that their team brought in presentation boards and models AFTER the 10 p.m. deadline on Saturday. The presented number of schemes and level of development of each was well beyond what a team could accomplish in 13.5 hours. Not to belittle the knowledge of the user panel, but there was a lack of understanding of what could be expected from a daylong charrette. This penalized the other four design teams that were shortlisted for the project. If breaking the rules of the competition is what helps you win, why were the rules established in the first place? Whatever happened to "cheaters never win"?

NC State has a Code of Ethics for students that encompasses cheating in class. All I'm asking is why don't they apply it toward everything university related? Is the university setting a precendent for looking the other way when rules are broken? Come to think of it, with the Easley scandal splattered all over the news, ethics hasn't exactly been at the top of NC State's list of priorities.

And my classmates cheated all the time while I studied and worked my ass off. The rules are there, but you can be damn sure that not everybody is going to follow them, much less enforce them.
