This is a must see movie. Based on the true story of a black girl who was born to white Afrikaner parents in Apartheid-era South Africa. Will bring tears to your eyes.

Still watching it... very sad and extraordinary.

I wouldn't like watching it at a theater so much as well. It is on TV. Great movie for watching at home lying on the sofa with a hot cup of tea/coffee/hot chocolate.

One of the best movies I have ever seen, and probably the best exploring racism/segregation.

Tea finished... must make another mug!

So after scanning those stories and then doing a search on the history of paternity tests, it looks like they were still using blood typing as a test for being biologically related. It can tell you if you're not related to someone, but it doesn't really tell you with any certainty if you are. I guess that's not really the point and it does sound like an interesting movie.

Yeah, in those days blood tests is all they had.

Just ended. Sweet and sour ending. Great move, I must say again.

And the South African accents are just an icing on the cake... of all the English accents I have ever heard, the South African accent is the most 'amusing' to me!

If I ever go to South Africa, which I probably will within the next 10 years, I will definitely go visit her.

Come on, so the mother slept with a black guy, gets knocked up, and has his baby. The "father" probably felt shamed, humiliated, etc... Way to have compassion for him.

Blood test to test for paternity? lolz. Which is more likely? Her father was black, or one of the rarest genetic accidents ever recorded in human history?

So seems like you have some inside info that no one in the world has, not including the woman (daughter) herself! Who knows what the truth is, whether she (mother) slept with someone else, or the parents had black genese in them. Such cases have occured before you know. Anyway, let's play your game:

Possibility 1: She slept with someone else. The child is still innocent. If the husband knew for sure that was not his daughter (and there is no evidence he ever said that), why did he kick out the daughter and disown her but kept his wife? Is that what any normal rational non-horrible human being would do in that situation? He should have divorced her and taken his real children and kicked her out with her illegitimate child.

Possibility 2: The child was theirs. Again, the child is innocent.

Conclusion: He was a horrible 'father'/father. I have no idea how anybody can feel compassion for the 'father'/father after watching the movie/reading the story. I do feel sorry that his wife had a baby with someone else or that he, a white man, gave birth to a black baby, when his wife was white as well. He was good to her at the beginning, and he fought for her and stood up for her. But after seeing how he treated her (the innocent DAUGHTER, not his maybe-guilty wife) after she defied his desire for her to marry a white man, it is impossible to feel sorry for him anymore, let alone have compassion. He was cruel to her, and threatened her with many things that a good non-horrible 'father'/father would never threaten his child with, esp a daughter. He was a cruel hardcore racist, plain and simple.
