Thoughts? The Panthers balled on that shit with Deangelo a couple years ago against Atlanta...obviously Miami had some success with Ronnie Brown getting snaps last year in Miami...I'm guessing we'll see some Wildcat in Philly this year.
What do ya'll think though? I think with the right personnel, you can mix it in every now and then, but I can't see a time going full fledged NFL-option play and getting away with it for long. 8/27/2009 8:52:28 PM |

It's a gimmick offense. You can't have sustained success in the NFL running a bunch of gadget plays. 8/27/2009 8:59:20 PM |

Justin: ESPN wouldn't let me enter the draft last night. I tried for like 15 minutes before I punched my computer and took a long walk to cool down.
Jaybee Hambeast: When did you become such an unintelligible spaz?

It's fine to mix in every now and then, but you can't base your offense around it. 8/27/2009 9:11:50 PM |

The one thing that gives the Wildcat some sustainability is because the type of players that can run it are being heavily produced by college right now. Since there is no real NFL development league, college is that development system. Less pocket passers and more QBs being developed that are high profile run/pass hybrids coming out of college means coaches are going to try to find ways to use these athletes.
Not sure if it will always be great results, but I think a lot of coaches look at these college guys who can somewhat throw and can run and think, "I have to be able to do something useful with that." 8/27/2009 9:27:42 PM |

NFL will evolve to an extent because what is coming out of college. That having been said, I think the wildcat will be less successful in general this year, as defenses have had the change to work on defending that and coordinators coach against it. NFL defenses are so fast and can hit that it is very difficult to beat a well-disciplined well-coached defense with wildcat-type plays on a regular basis. An exception could be the use of somebody like a Pat White, that are very good at running that spread option and passing out of it. 8/29/2009 3:53:38 PM |

Gruden LOVES the Wildcat offense. Listening to him babble about it during a monday night game a few weeks ago made me laff. 8/29/2009 4:30:37 PM |
