I've never been to a game at Michigan, definitely on my list... but it seems like its so flat and goes "out" so much that you are really really far from the field as you get up higher (like those club seats)

times i have been there i have been fortunate enough to have good seats but yea as you walk in to go down to the seats you are very far away... im hoping these suites can trap in a little more noise too

richrod states he will use all three qbs too...
don't like it, sheridan needs out of the picture

Yea, my families' seats are about halfway down the bowl in the corner which is a great view without being very far away. If you're sitting at the top of the bowl id imagine its pretty different. I guess those suites will be nice and warm/dry for some of the nastier Michigan months.

I'm with PackGuitar that the 3 QB system makes me very nervous... I was hoping Tate Forcier would be good enough to start.

The latest controversy about the program breaking NCAA rules by over practicing (maybe they shouldnt have sucked so bad last year, and they could practice less?) is a little disturbing.

All that said, I'm hoping UM can make it back to a bowl this year, but I'm way more confident about NCSU's success for the first year ever.

I'm gonna hope for 7-5. I'll just put down all of the away games as losses.... and OSU is going down this year... (since i'll be there)

Schedule:

9/5 Western Michigan - W
9/12 Notre Dame - W
9/19 Eastern Michigan - W
9/26 Indiana - W
10/3 @ Michigan State - L
10/10 @ Iowa - L
1017 Delaware St - W
10/24 Penn St - L
10/31 @ Illinois - L
11/7 Purdue - W
11/14 @ Wisconsin - L
11/21 Ohio State -W

thx for making the thread JBee!

Hell every school in the NCAA makes their players stay a little longer than what's allowed, especially if they send them home early on occasions. My current roommate went to a tiny D-III college in Texas and was on the basketball team and said that they even were kept later than what was allowed. It's not like they were playing for a chance at the NBA or in a huge arena. As a person that follows the Michigan football program, the program and it's players became pussified (Mike Hart being the exception). The hard nosed teams that were both extremely talented and out worked you were a thing of the past.

I still remember this game. 1 second left!

I'm sure this will piss Jaybee off.

the biggest part of the story is that it's RR's own players calling him out on the violations.

NyM, I know beating OSU is wishful thinking, and I'm not saying UM will clobber ND, but I'm not believing the hype at all. We'll see what happens (I'll be at that one too..).

of course not, but "I" like richrod so ive just shrugged this story off... just sounds like some former pussies couldnt handle practice or werent getting love from richrod so they bring on some distraction a week before kickoff...

and its because of pussies like that that michigan loses to app state, glad they are gone

I hate to say it but RichRod will have them winning 9 games in 2010. I think this year will be another of cleaning house especially based upon the recent events with the players whining. It took WVU about 2 years to adapt to his sytem. This year will be another painful one for Michigan...5 maybe 6 wins.

thats pretty pathetic by the players to create this whole mess there. sounds like a bunch of babies to me

what a distraction to a program that is trying to right the ship.

there's 2 things to the story:

1. I'm sure most (if not all) major programs run extra practices or have them run longer than mandated from time to time, but the fact that his own players are calling him out on it is a first. And, I don't care if they're players that Carr recruited, they're still on the damn team. And one guy who commented now plays for Colorado where I guess Dan Hawkins plays by the rules.

2. if they practiced that much, shouldn't they have won more than 3 fucking games?

Bye bye old press box. They will take it down after the end of the season to put in new seating. I wonder what they'll do with the old "MICHIGAN STADIUM" sign that sat atop it.

this stuff is getting as annoying as brett favre stories but... more good truth coming out

http://www.freep.com/article/20090901/SPORTS06/909010357/1054/U-M-players-and-fans-rally-around-coaches

http://www.freep.com/article/20090901/SPORTS06/909010318/1054/Lions--Wolverines-weigh-in-on-allegations-

carson butler, who really didnt like richrod... backed him up saying these extra workouts were voluntary and of course "expected" but it never had the.... "workout more or else consequences" idea behind it

Quote :
"Butler said he didn't remember spending 10 hours on football the days after games, as players told the Free Press they did. "I really didn't pay attention to the hours," he said. Asked if voluntary workouts were truly voluntary or if there were repercussions for not participating, Butler said: "As far as college football, ain't nothing too much voluntary. If the weight room's open, you going to go. If it's a run, you going to go. If it's a workout, you going to go whether it said voluntary or not.

"For all the years I've been there, everything that was considered voluntary, I remember every player on the team showing up. Especially at this level, you're supposed to be in there.""

this just adding to the idea of a couple whiny players who probably just didn't like the coaching and philosophy switch cause it didn't suit their playing time or whatever

this is pretty damn cool

it's not like they bring innocence to michigan's table, but they didn't have to come out and do this, which is helping diffuse this annoying story

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=4438648

Quote :
"COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State players say if their rivals at Michigan are putting in extra time, they're not alone.

So are the Buckeyes. And so is any team, they say, that wants to be any good.

Michigan's coaching staff has been accused by a handful of current and former players -- all speaking anonymously -- of pushing too hard and forcing them to put in too many hours.

Join the club, the Buckeyes said.

Ohio State captains Kurt Coleman and Doug Worthington and head coach Jim Tressel all said Tuesday that it takes extra work to compete these days in major college football -- and the players who want to be great understand that.

The NCAA may have a 20-hour per week cap, but the players don't live by that.

"I think Michigan is probably abiding by the rules," said Coleman, a starting safety. "But, you know, to be great you have to put in more than 20 hours. That's just the minimum. In any great program, each player is putting in more than what they're required to. And it's all on their own. That's what takes a program to the next level, when guys are going above and beyond the call of duty."

Worthington said that no matter what the coaches say -- or the NCAA -- players who want to get better will become workaholics. He said it was up to the upperclassmen to make sure that the younger players kept their noses to the grindstone.

"It's hard to be a good football team giving 20 hours, but you know the rules and that's why leaders and captains and seniors have to make sure we keep guys after and we watch more film," the starting defensive lineman said. "Do it on our time, but make sure we know it's nothing mandatory. But if you want to be good, it takes more than just 20 hours."

Tressel all but said it's useless to try to restrain players from working at a sport.

"What makes it difficult is how good these kids want to be," he said. "Sometimes you have to chain the doors of the Woody Hayes [football] center, you know, to get them out of there. These kids want to be good. They want to train. They want to get their buddies in there and throw the ball around, those kinds of things."

Tressel went to great lengths to say that he and his staff do not prescribe extra workouts for players beyond what they can meet during their allotted 20 hours per week during the season. But that doesn't mean Ohio State's players are only working 20 hours per week: Tressel said it's foolish to try to rein in young, committed and ambitious athletes.

"It'd be like telling our med students, 'We're going to close the library,'" he said. "You've got to let them train. There is a fine line, but the safeguards we have are we have set schedules and forms that we fill out, just like everyone."

Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez said Monday that the Wolverines follow the NCAA rules on required work, but his comments essentially mirrored Tressel's: Players were so eager to work well beyond the NCAA caps that they often called Michigan's coaches to open up the weight room.

Rodriguez installed a rigorous conditioning regimen at Michigan when he was hired after the 2007 season. While some players struggled to adapt, most credited it with improving their athleticism and several former Wolverines now in the NFL praised the program after working out at the school in the offseason.

Tressel said each time he has taken a head coaching job -- in 1986 at Youngstown State and again in 2001 at Ohio State -- players came up to him to tell him that under the prior regime the team had lost its discipline and toughness and needed to work harder.

"So I think deep down kids want to work hard," he said. "I haven't had anyone come in and say, 'You know what, Coach? We spent too much time at it and that's why we didn't do as well as we wanted to do.'""

Quote :
"Michigan freshman Tate Forcier will start at quarterback Saturday against Western Michigan, coach Rich Rodriguez said on his radio show tonight.

"They were so close, there was a lot of give and take," Rodriguez said of the three QB candidates. "It was maybe his performance in the scrimmages."

He said he told the trio -- which also includes Nick Sheridan and Denard Robinson -- that they're all starting quarterbacks but someone had to take the first snap.

Rick Leach in 1975 and Chad Henne in 2004 also started season openers as true freshmen at Michigan.

The last 21 U-M quarterbacks (since Leach in 1975) starting their first game have gone 16-5. Sheridan lost the opener to Utah last year.

Though Rodriguez has said for nearly two weeks that all three quarterbacks will play in the opener, he said it has been a difficult process because no one has separated himself.

“All three of them have done well in spurts,” Rodriguez said. “It’s just that no one has separated himself to say, ‘He is solid, he’s going to take all the reps. I didn’t expect it to be, you thought maybe something would happen, and it did not happen that way, so it may have to happen in the game. We’ll find out more in a ballgame.

"That’s why the first game and the first couple games, you find out more about what you have on your team to adjust to than any other time.”

This was Forcier’s plan when he enrolled in January, forgoing the second semester at San Diego’s Scripps Ranch High School. It allowed him to work in U-M's strength program for a few extra months -- most freshmen arrive in June -- participate in spring practice and begin absorbing Rodriguez's playbook.

Forcier is known for his accuracy, a major problem for last season’s quarterbacks. He completed 69.9% of his passes in high school.

Rodriguez has split the reps equally between all three QBs in practice, so unless the starter is hot early, he plans to rotate to see how they handle game situations.

Meanwhile, running back Brandon Minor remains questionable for Saturday. Carlos Brown will start.
