Quote :
"The Black Crowes release their eighth studio album today, "Before the Frost," which shows that the band, nearing 20 years in their recording career, are keeping up with the times with the unique album release.

A CD/vinyl purchase of the album is accompanied with a download code for the album's companion release, "Until the Freeze." The second album is being given away as a "thank you" to fans.

Together, "Before the Frost...Until the Freeze" include 20 tracks of new Black Crowes material, and over 100 minutes of brand new music. The album, released on Silver Arrow Records, was produced by longtime Black Crowes collaborator Paul Stacey."

Quote :
"The new album, which will be released Monday, was finalized and recorded before 200 guests at the Levon Helms Studio in Woodstock, N.Y. It's an audio beauty. "

i just heard about this today and feel ashamed that i hadn't heard sooner considering i'm a huge black crowes fan. but i did get my hands on it, and i like it a lot. and other than the clapping at the end of the songs you can't even really tell that it's live.

Can't wait to hear this.

it could be totally awesome, but I'm also afraid of it being disappointing (or rather, not being the Crowes that I want to hear. I want to hear somewhat of a return to, say, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, but I'm worried that it might be more like Lions.)

i didn't care for Warpaint at first, but it's now in my daily-listener rotation

and damn, they still put on a GREAT show. seen them every year for the last 4 years and I was wowed each time. definitely seeing them at HOB and possibly at Thomas Wolfe in Asheville

as much as i'd love for them to go back to southern harmony or amorica, they're a different band now. if you liked warpaint you'll probably like this too. it's just really solid music. it's good stuff. but don't worry. it's nothing like lions. and i hope i can make it out to one of their shows, because they're such a great live band.

no doubt that they've moved on from their "Hard To Handle" and "Remedy" days. more twangy and somewhat jammy now. but it's not the annoying kind of jammy.

by the way, they're on Letterman tomorrow night. he's always been a HUGE supporter of The Crowes

GREAT album. Far better than Warpaint IMO. I need to download Until the Freeze. I hear its more country/americana. Can't wait to catch them live in a few weeks, always a fun time. Will be my 12th time seeing them since 06.

really liking "good morning captain," "houston don't dream about me," "and the band played on...," and "lady of avenue a." this album has been much easier to get into than warpaint so far.
