haha, you want this for free?

look at site5 or dreamhost... if you can't afford something that cheap, you might want to reconsider having a website

Get a dreamhost promotional code

Spend $10 for a year of decent hosting

Win

I'm not sure this thread is entirely legit, though

domains cost real money, you wont get one for free. t35.com is good for a straight-up free host.

Unfortunately, as has been noted, many of the hosting solutions are not free. However, many are cheap. What all are you looking to do? Is this for personal use, or, business purposes?

I'll host your stuff for $10/month. You'll be sharing a home on symmetric lvl 2 access lines without speed limits. I had to upgrade from several lesser hosts to get streaming HD working well.

so my 2-year/$118 deal with hostmonster.com runs out on january 1st and i'm looking for another place to host

i host 6 low-traffic websites that don't need their own logins (meaning i don't really need reseller hosting, just something that will allow me to host unlimited domains)

suggestions?

media temple is way too expensive for what i need

site5 only allows 1 domain with their $4.95 service (at which point, i might as well just stay with hostmoster since they cost the same and have the same features)

1and1 charges a setup fee and ends up costing the same as site5/hostmonster per year

i guess i was looking for another great deal

i put up a really simple, unimportant site on globedomain.com -- they are pretty cheap. not sure how reliable they are but they haven't gone out of business yet

you pay $10/year to get 5 addon domains on a shared hosting acct which sounds like its all you need.

^^ It's a recent change that site5 made with their newer plans. I was able to upgrade my old plan but still keep my quota of parked domains.

speaking of site5...I tweeted a while back that I was moving my stuff over from site5 to media-temple and they responded to my tweet an hour later asking me why...lol. I don't follow them on twitter and I didn't include any #

I am anxious to get my forums off Media Temple and onto another provider (in this case a HostGator VPS) after randomly having code injected into my GridService and the ridiculous bills I receive using the service.

^^might do that in a couple days. I just looked at the tour though and it's all about the easy site builder thing. Is it difficult to edit the HTML and CSS or do you just have to use the WYSIWYG editor?

^ I've never used their site builder before. Frankly, if you don't have a lot of experience, you can use their Fantastico tool to install Wordpress with literally a single mouse click. From there you'll have one of the most user-friendly content management systems in existence.

i ended up with the "everything unlimited" deal from dreamhost for $94 for 2 years (including domain registration), though i had to bitch a little bit when they told me to sign up and enter the promotion code later (and there was never any place to input it...i had to contact customer service, but they took care of it)

I can provide:

I looking for the following features: domain name, web hosting, email, database, huge file space

for free. For 3 people. I just want to fill a server up so I can hand it off to support without worrying about new orders.

I liked awardspace.com's free service, but 200MB was enough for me. You're not going to get free domain registration anywhere (at least that's not a useless mktg gimmick). Awardspace will give you a subdomain (<yourname>.awardspace.com), but there are other services that will give you free subdomains to point to your hosting site. (i.e. <yourname>.<theirname>.com)

i'm looking for a cheap hosting solution for pictures - any specials going on right now? don't have a lot of requirements other than i'd like to spend less than $10/mo - need at least 10gb of storage but would prefer 1tb

also what's the best gallery software out there nowadays?

ideally i'd like to be able to incorporate my blog that i have over at blogspot as well but it's not a must-have

^^1TB of storage?

Shiesh

Ya'll need to come on over to WeDesireMedia.com for your personal sites (that aren't ambrosia - she wanted to host like 40GB of porn ) We have competitive rates, and all the profit benefits local youth (cause we be nonprofit like that.) Hosted on twin VPS servers @ thePlanet, guaranteed 40Mbit connections. And you're only sharing with 15 other sites - our servers hover around 10% utilization.

^^ i got dreamhost with a buy-a-year-get-a-year coupon, so it was ~$110 for 2 years and a "free" domain registration

Sign up for amazon ... I have wanted to transition to their cloud hosting services for a few years now, but I already have 20 some domains setup on dreamhost and dont want to convert them over.

I may start using it for new projects though, as the scalability is attractive.
