Slight grinding noise occurs during these situations:
slow roll - clutch in - disengage gear - start to engage next gear - *noise starts* - engage gear - *noise continues* - clutch out/gas in - *noise stops*
Its usually in lower gears. It could be happening in higher gears, I just can't hear it. Any ideas? 9/9/2009 11:08:48 AM |

It's called "syncros"...perhaps you've heard of them. You'll notice it's like a winding up while you're shoving it into the next gear.

I was thinking possibly synchros too.
they didn't always make so much noise, it just started happening a couple days ago. I know how my clutch/transmission normally sounds. Its not a whirring, its literally a grinding sound that I can also feel through the shifter. 9/9/2009 2:36:36 PM |

Bad release bearing. it probably needs to be greased replaced
Because if you can get to it to grease it, you can get to it to replace it. Damn near all of them these days are sealed and permanently greased, so the only thing you can really grease is the sleeve it slides on. And that doesn't do anything for the bearing itself.
And it will make noise EVERY time you push the pedal in. Like a RRRRRR noise. 9/9/2009 3:47:31 PM |

when u replace that bearing u might as well do the clutch
since the clutch is out, go ahead and resurface the flywheel
and while that is out do the rear main seal
and while the transmission is out, replace fluid and axle seals

Just had a 60k service done a couple weeks ago. All fluids, belts, seals and stuff on the engine replaced. Doubt anything was done to the internals of the clutch/transmission though.
[Edited on September 9, 2009 at 4:03 PM. Reason : don't have the service sheet on me with the list of stuff done.] 9/9/2009 4:02:39 PM |

ah come on, if i've sprayed lithium grease at a throwout through a clutch fork/slave cylinder access hole to temporarily quieten it before, i KNOW your ass has. 9/9/2009 11:04:39 PM |
