since this is the first HUGE game of the season, it's definitely deserving of its own game thread

i know we'll all be watching it, so we might as well discuss it (and leave the vague NCAA thread for talking about mediocre games)

does anyone really think this is going to be that great of a game?

USC by double digits for sure; OSU has serious flaws when comparing them to other big time teams

The Buckeyes did not look good against Navy's offense. One advantage is first start on the road for SC's QB, but all that talent at tailback will be the difference. Pryor is a different beast this season though.

I've got to go with USC. Pete Carroll is just too good a coach to let this one go. Can you imagine if this kid Barkeley stays all four years. I doubt he does, but if he did he could be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

99% of me says to go USC

but I have a small inkling that tOSU rebounds from a lackluster performance last week and pulls this game out late....i wouldn't be surprised to see overtime

its not really that big of a game a #8 just squeezed by a shitty team. i think we know the outcome.

its not anywhere close to the FSU miami game

miami would have beat Ohio if they played each other.

Something could always happen. It seems like tOSU needs to get a minimum of 3 losses to get off the BCS NC appearance radar. Here's to hoping that tOSU gets their first loss.

this loss will drop OSU a few spots, but they'll be back in the top 5ish in time for a match-up in November with Penn State since they play cupcakes all year. Win that game and they're in the NC for sure for another beating like most years.

My main beef with OSU is their easy conference. The ACC may not have the top 10 teams year in and out, but if you play top 20-30 teams every week you'll drop a few, even if you're really good. OSU has like 2 games a year to really worry about

The Pac-10 has been FAR better recently than the Big 10. Not even really close...

SC also has no fear of playing AND BEATING anyone, anywhere. In the last five years they have played @ Auburn, @ Va Tech (in DC), @ Ohio State. They also play ND every year, and aside from the last two they have were good with Quinn and Samardajzia. They have played, at home, against Ohio State.

Now, Ohio State also schedules a great game every year, but they rarely win them!

No computer rankings are perfect but the last four years from Sagarin (I use four years because that is when the big realignment happened -- no sense listing before then because the entire dynamics have been changed):

2008 - Pac-10: 4; Big 10: 6
2007 - Pac-10: 2; Big 10: 6
2006 - Pac-10: 2; Big 10: 5
2005 - Pac-10: 4; Big 10: 1

So the Big 10 was great in 2005. Since then they have not once finished ahead of even the lowly Big East as far as Sagarin is concerned. The last two they have been the WORST BCS conference.

no eating shoe predictions from me this year. feeling pretty puny after the shit performance last week against navy.

I'm torn on going to the NCSU/Murray State game or staying at home to watch the entire OSU/USC game. Hopefully NCSU gets up big by halftime and I can leave a little early to catch the game

I think people are reading too much into the OSU-Navy game, I mean Navy isn't great or anything but they've been to 6 straight bowls and they definitely aren't a cupcake like people are making them out to be. Plus I think it's more difficult to prepare for the option than it is for a pro-style offense. I doubt USC is going to roll like everyone assumes they're going to, Prior is a better QB than Barkley and USC's tailbacks seem to have fumbling issues.

Marginally. And only because Barkley isn't proven really. I honestly think Barkley is the next Carson Palmer. Guy is a stud with a big arm and a coolness beyond his age. I don't think SC loses a game this year...

Kiper called Stafford being the number 1 pick three years ago

he called Barkley being the number 1 pick in 2012-2013 in April

Superduperstar in the making

That said...he's a true freshman playing his first road game in from of 100000

I like the Bucks by 7 or less

But struggling against Navy's did?

^^ really? Even if Pryor is better than Barkley right now, SC's defense is still faster than anything Ohio State will see. Sure, the LBs are inexperienced, but they are still probably one of the top five units in the country...

like I said before, Navy doesn't suck...they don't have the athletes that OSU has but they've been to 6 straight bowls. I'm not saying USC is going to lose, I'm just saying that I don't think it's going to be a blowout.

the Buckeyes' best shot is if the crowd really gets to Barkley early and keeps him from getting into any kind of rhythm. And then the defense can tee off on the run game

Pryor is going to have to show me a lot this game, he always looks shaky to me, sure he's a freak athlete, but I just have a hard time putting my full confidence in him right now.

I still think its a long shot that we'll win, I'm really hoping its not another 35-3 debacle

I think you're blowing that game out of proportion, one game does not make a season and it's not like they lost the game anyway

they had to be given a game by NAVY.

usc is going to simply outclass them.

how were they given the game? Navy had to complete a 2 point conversion to TIE the game and failed, it's not like the Iowa game where they had to block 2 consecutive FG attempts to save a win.

one game doesnt make a season but its the BEST evidence of how a team will perform the following week... and based on that, of course everyone will pick the trojans to rape the suckeyes

unless you were in columbus watching their scrimmages the last day or two and things are all of a sudden better???

I realize that OSU wasn't impressive in the way they beat Navy, but how impressive is killing San Jose State really? As far as I'm concerned not much. Again, I'm not saying OSU is going to beat USC I just don't think it's going to be a blowout.
