gf and i were thinking about going to this...she said some of the vendors are cheap and cheesy crap, but that it's pretty fun, if for no other reason than the food

I'll be going with my family on Sunday. I hope they have dancing for everybody, that's the most fun. The Greek festival in Chapel Hill last year mixed vanilla ice cream with baklava, probably one of the best desert combos I've ever had.

So strange, our Greek Festival in Roanoke is this weekend too. Guess it's a holiday.

The Orthodox Church I go to in Greensboro is also having theirs this weekend, but I think it has less to do with the specific dates than having them in early fall.

I can't stand the things, personally. Back home they generally mean ethnic tension and bitterness because the Greeks take all the glory and everyone else get's sidelined. Then again, nobody would probably show up to a Serbian Festival or a Bulgarian Festival, but you get the idea.

^it IS the greek festival. a chance to share food, culture, and raise money for the church.

i've never gotten a bitterness vibe from any of the one's i've been to (richmond, raleigh, fayetteville) but maybe things are different in gboro.

imma dominate this tomorrow before the gardner-webb game!

Festivals give the people what they want, apparently the people don't want Bulgarian food, culture, etc.

If you really want to generate some tension and bitterness, ask for a doner kebap with a Turkish coffee.
