Many people deride App State for the FCS Championships, and consider that championship basically fake/worthless, since they aren't actually the best college football team in the country.

How is this any different than a welterweight boxing champion? They could probably hold their own, or even win, against many of the scrubs in heavyweight boxing, but would get smashed against a heavyweight champion, so is their championship "fake"?
