"His most successful season was the 1998-99 season, when the team won their first 18 games and finished the season with a 29-4 record, setting a state of Alabama record for the most wins.. This team, led by transfer Chris Porter and Doc Robinson, won the SEC regular season title and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. The next season, the team had even higher aspirations, predicted by Sports Illustrated to win the national title. Auburn finished with a 24-10 record and reached the NCAA tournament for the second consecutive year, advancing to the second round. Ellis also reached the NCAA Tournament in 2003 as the last at-large team admitted. Under much scrutiny, the team advanced to the Sweet 16 before losing to eventual national champion Syracuse"

Auburn was also fairly decent when they had National Player of the Year, Charles Barkley

I'm fairly certain that most athletics programs violate many NCAA rules and the most basic ethics, so all of them.

San Francisco won a couple of championships in the 50s. Kinda like how we won two championships years ago that no one cares about.

One SEC title, eight NCAA appearances

That's not even worth a respectability watch thread

Full House definitely.

I mean, if they just came back and dominated TGIF I'd be happy, but I'd really like to see them compete on the national level.

he went there because they sucked and he was overlooked by everybody coming out of high school so he wanted to make a statement by taking a shitty program and making them respectable. they were never really respectable at all. they've had a good season here an there, but i wouldn't consider them ever being respectable, despite what barkley was able to do there, but he was just a great player.

Sports Illustrated obviously respected them at one point in time:

I remember those couple of years. Cris Porter was the shit for a couple years...but I want to say he kinda sucked it up his senior year. Fuzzy memory on that one.

Then 'ol Adam "I'm gonna fuck your girlfriend, Kenny" Harrington transferred there. He played about the same as he did at State but somehow managed to get a year or two in the NBA.

Back in the day....

Just b/c they once were No. 1 in the AP poll for like a week or two doesn't mean they have a lot of history. Hell NC State football has way more history than UVA football.

NCSU
Conference titles 11
Bowls - 24

UVA
Conference titles - 3
Bowls - 15

Wasn't there a year recently where Wisconsin bball was ranked #1 at one point in the season, and ended up getting bounced in the 2nd round? It was considered a big disappoint in Badgerland b/c iirc.

Now I haven't been here for a basketball season yet but from what I've heard, they (Auburn) could really care less. Plus they are in the UNC family

This statement has absolutely nothing to do with this thread.

I wish Virginia football would get back to respectability. They are the perfect example of the thread title.

There are numerous baseball teams with good past histories that are just awful now....

Pittsburgh, Oakland, Kansas City, Baltimore, and Cincinnati all come to mind.

The Pirates haven't had a winning season in 17 years now...longest streak in pro sports.

I don't have time to dig through old threads, but I believe Auburn is putting up a couple hundred million or so for a BBall court renovation.
