searched threads, didn't find anything that was specifically pertaining to my interest.
Just want a small netbook, good processing power - can run AutoCAD and RevIT well. screen size isn't important and i want something very lightweight and not bulky. I'm tired of lugging around my 8 pound laptop thats (still) the shit.
Something i can take to studio and classes.
Went to best buy and didn't like anything they had. What kind of specs should I look for? 9/27/2009 2:46:10 AM |

Got the wife an MSI Wind last Christmas. She loves it and still uses it all the time.
I love it because it keeps her off my desktop. 9/27/2009 10:04:54 AM |

lol yea, I've got a friend that has a netbook and runs maple on it. It takes everything it's got to run that program. GOOD luck with running CAD or anything graphic intense on it. 9/27/2009 12:14:57 PM |

This is the closest you'll get. The only netbook out there you can buy right now with a real graphics chipset (but it's still not very powerful -- nVidia ION LE). It has the best chance, however slight it may be, of actually running AutoCAD, but I guarantee it won't run well if at all.
Remote Desktop is your only viable option if you go Netbook. You can buy a real laptop in the same size but it'll run you twice to three times as much.] 9/27/2009 1:13:44 PM |

Out of all the major cad systems, I'd think AutoCAD's requirements would be the lowest. Depending on the version you want to run, my guess would be one a few years old would be just fine. 9/27/2009 3:37:18 PM |

yeah, 2005. not intensive at all. I hate all the BLOAT in the newer versions. 9/27/2009 4:36:55 PM |

well, here are the 2005 requirements - according to google:
Quote : | " * Intel Pentium III or later, with 800 MHz or faster processor, or compatible * Microsoft Windows XP (Professional, Home Edition, or Tablet PC Edition), or Windows 2000 Professional * 256 MB RAM * 300 MB free disk space for installation * 1024x768 VGA with true color * Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 * CD-ROM drive * Mouse, trackball, or compatible pointing device " |
afaik pretty much any netbook in existence that runs xp meets those.9/27/2009 9:39:32 PM |

For better or worse, the difference between this being posted in a new thread versus being posted in the netbooks thread is my having clicked on and contributed to it versus my having discounted it as something I don't care about.

lol at running ACAD on a netbook. the netbook might meet requirements... but that doesn't mean much. I really hope you aren't doing much in cad... well you won't be doing much... because you can't. 9/28/2009 11:08:46 AM |

seems like any current netbook would basically quadruple those requirements. 9/28/2009 12:15:21 PM |

For the same money you could buy a base model dual core laptop that would run the software better. 9/28/2009 1:16:03 PM |

^I already have one. Just wanted something I could carry much easier. I spent $310.00.
^^^ Runs ACAD great, actually. SketchUp runs okay, CS2 suite runs better than I thought.
Pleasantly surprised. Still haven't plugged it in after first charge yesterday. Runnin' on battery the whole time. Quiet fan, nice keys. ++ so far 9/28/2009 10:14:05 PM |
