Honestly, though, who is more annoying? The guy who posts adblock in every ad thread, or the guy who posts yet another fucking annoying ad thread knowing damn well the absentee owners aren't gonna do shit about it?

I've started getting these a bunch in Chrome:
They're not always from the same domain, so blocking is basically an arms race. Is there any way the site admins could say, contact the ad company to let them know their ads keep setting off malware/virus alerts? Right now I can't even post in Tech Talk; Chrome pretty much thinks, "It's a trap!"

I've been getting those in Chrome too. I didn't put two and two together at first, but I assume this is what sglazier is referring to. I passed it on to the ad company guy yesterday, so we'll see what happens. 10/23/2009 1:36:50 PM |

Ken-
Yes, there is a virus stemming from this website with the previously mentioned popups, and there's some website redirect program also and a fake antivirus program install.
This basically means I'm done with this wretched hellhole for good. Haha. 11/5/2009 11:48:42 AM |

sooooo I'm pretty some Malware is now on my work comp because of here. :\ The only sites I go to besides tdub is a law site and Google or health sites (for work). Do you think it could be from these ads? 12/7/2009 9:58:02 PM |

it's hard to say. i've gotten the warnings in chrome, but i haven't gotten any popups or had anything try to install itself on my computer so i have no way to track down the offending ads and remove them. all i can say for now is, if you have the option of using a modern browser that helps protect from malware, use it. and be aware of what you're doing. if you get a popup that says you have spyware installed, it's probably a trick so don't click it. and, please continue to let me know when you have problems. the ad system is the part that i have the least control over, but i assure you i take this seriously, and so do the owners. 12/8/2009 9:28:33 AM |

The only thing I can think of is maybe clicking an ad once or twice by accident then closing immediately... I'm just done with tww on any PC I use. :/ my mac is fine but I don't want to risk it with another PC.
The malware is INSANE. It won't let me open Hijack This or anything that has malware in the description. It even shuts down Firefox when I try to open a page with malware or removal anywhere on it!! 12/8/2009 1:48:26 PM |

we've disabled the ad network we believe is responsible for the malware. please let me know if you get any more funky stuff going on. i know it's retarded that i have to keep asking y'all to report this stuff, but for now, it's the best way I have to figure out what's going on
also, i'm really sorry to anybody that's been affected by the poor ad experience lately. ads are a necessary evil to keep the site running, but the last thing i want is for the ads to piss people off. 12/8/2009 3:37:53 PM |

Just a common sense thing here, folks:
You probably shouldn't be on TWW at work to begin with.
I mean, I'm not trying to be your dad by any means, but responsible adults don't visit potentially offensive websites while they're using company property on the company's time.
in short:
KEEP YOUR WORK LIFE AND TWW COMPLETELY SEPARATED
EARNIN MONEY AND TDUB DON'T MIX
