Red Rally is this Friday, and donations will be accepted to aid Brian Keeter's ongoing recovery. I talked with him yesterday for an update on how he's doing... take a look:

Some of you fucking douche bags never cease to amaze me, who gives a flying fuck the circumstances of what caused his accident, even if it was some random student from Becton, North, or Bragaw, Id be there even just putting in my measly $5.00 b/c no on should have to go through life without some sort of fighting chance to walk again.

Plus all it means is giving up one happy meal, two drinks at the bar, or the price of the chick fil-a sandwich you had at last Saturday's game.

I remember during my undergraduate years, that the crowd got behind Keeter b/c even if he got into the game for like a minute or 45 seconds, he played his ass off, and the Pack crowd loved him for always working his ass off.

Brian Keeter's playing days was one of the many reasons why I enjoy supporting Wolfpack athletics, b/c of the heart he ALWAYS played with....the dude now has a 5% chance to walk again and even if he never gets that chance, we can atleast help him/his family out with some of his hospital bills. If it was one of our asses out there facing a 250,000 dollar plus hospital bill, you guys would be wanting whatever help you could get!

Best wishes to you Brian Keeter, and you can gladly have my $5.00 b/c you need it a little more then I do dude!! Get well soon man!!

A GREAT article, Keeter Time, by Dave Pond is a featured story this month on ncsu.edu website. Please be sure to check it out.

Also, some of you may have received the below message from Brian in an email. We thought those not on his contact list might like to hear from him too so we've posted it below:

Hey Everybody!
I want again to thank everyone that has & continues to reach out to me following my accident. I continue to be amazed by the tremendous amount of support I receive from family & friends.

Unable to be proactive in my recovery has been very tough both mentally & physically. I am extremely excited that I have finally recovered from secondary issues that have prevented me from taking a very aggressive & proactive route in my recovery. I am ready to get started & confident that nobody will work harder then me at the therapies I am about to begin!

October is going to be a busy & exciting month. I will be moving about 25 miles or so north of Charlotte to be close to the Race to Walk therapy gym in Mooresville. At Race to Walk, I plan on building strength working with therapists & on my own 4-5 days a week. I hope to build up as much strength as I can & make as many gains as possible to maximize the time spent at my next stop at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. The Shepherd Center has a wonderfully renowned outpatient therapy program, Beyond Therapy, which helps people with injuries like mine attempt to recover function. They have many success stories from people with injuries similar to mine. My father got me admitted & on the waiting list shortly after getting injured. He also toured the facility a few months ago. There was an eight month wait when I signed up & I anticipate beginning there in early 2010.

As most of you know, NC State has offered to help raise money to cover the tremendous out-of-pocket expenses associated with spinal cord injury therapy & recoveries that are not covered by insurance. I invite & encourage everyone to attend the Red Rally this Friday, October 16th. I definitely plan to come out in support of NC State family & hope also to see many of you there.

With the Red Rally coming up, I thought I should address one concern. Some people inquiring about donating to NTAF on my behalf have expressed some confusion regarding where the monies go. Just to be clear, approximately 98% of tax-deductible donations received in my honor go into my personal NTAF account to be used towards paying for progressive therapies such as Race to Walk & Shepherd Center, modifications to a vehicle so that I can begin driving again, & other vital expenses that insurance does not cover (The other 2% goes towards administrative costs & salaried patient fund coordinators.).

I appreciate everyone that has donated & please know that every little bit helps so much. I know times are tough for a lot of people but I cannot tell you how the small donations from many add up to be such a tremendous help to my family & me.

Again, I look forward to seeing you all at Reynolds Coliseum this Friday!

Sincerely,
Brian Keeter

As always, thank you so much to all the family, friends, & supporters who continue to encourage & assist Brian & our family through this!

From someone who can relate to your struggles as an alcoholic, I hope you find peace with your decisions and I hope you are able to recover from your injuries and help others.

From someone who can identify with how big of a douche bag you were playing basketball outside of college acting like you were better than everyone even though your team routinely lost games, I hope you show some motivation in your recovery.

You can't live off high school athletics forever, man.

Address the fallacies of your life. You are living off taxpayers, your parents, and donations.

You should at least try to make amends for that. We don't care about your daily progression as much as we care about what you make of your 2nd chance...

If they are asking for donations,

Are they going to be letting people know how it happened? Seems pretty cheesy to me, tell a bunch of college kids who have never heard of the guy that a former NC State basketball player is trying to walk again and get their money...without letting them know how he hurt himself. That's pretty low if you ask me.

If you are giving people the choice to donate, at least let them make an educated decision. There are A LOT of people/agencies that are in huge need right now...and who didn't hurt themselves by driving drunk.

In the link posted up top, there's no mention of the drinking and driving. So, really, fuck this whole thing.

I have no problem for his family/friends asking for donations in the hopes that he can get his life straight and use this as a platform to help others, but it is VERY disingenuous to not even mention the cause of his accident.

Also, totally unrelated, but I used to see him at Flying Saucer all the time and dude struck me as kind of a dick. People would go up to him and say what's up (why? I don't know... it's not like he was worthy of even being acknowledge for his bball exploits) and he'd completely blow them off like he was MJ or something...

You're right, but people who hurt themselves because they got behind the wheel while drinking should be last on the list for anyone's charitable contributions for their recovery.

how does being reluctant to give money to a guy who injured himself as a result of a stupid decision make anyone a goody goody? i guarantee you joe schmoe who did the same thing but never played basketball wouldn't receive any press or a dime from anyone

Since this thread will hopefully be moved or locked...

The goody-goodie comment wasn't directed at the reluctance to give money, but to those that are so quick to "cast stones", knowing most of them have done stupid things in their life. Same thing happened (moreso on other sites) when JW got busted for "breaking and entering", although i do realize those are very different circumstances.

I don't drive drunk. I don't condone other people driving drunk. I think it is retarded that someone will argue that we should support this jackass. Hell maybe if he can never walk again maybe he won't drive drunk again?

so if a guy was drowning and he was drunk, and you could save him, you wouldn't?

What a retarded fucking analogy.

A drunk person swimming isn't endangering anybody's lives, except for possibly the person trying to save that person. I'm not wishing any ill-will towards Brian Keeter. I would just personally rather give money to a person who needs help with cancer treatment or maybe someone who is permanently disabled as A RESULT of another drunk driver....than someone who got hurt because they were driving drunk and has been caught doing it before.

I hope he gets better and I'm sure he'll get someone money from some people that will help him. But its probably the last "charitable" case I would consider donating to.

I think more people are annoyed that they're not even mentioning how he was injured when they're asking for money

if people don't mind giving money to somebody that has repeatedly gotten DUI's, that's their decision to make but you should be honest enough to give them all the information needed to make a decision

It's not even that; it's that he's asking us to pay (literally) for his indiscretions.

You may not have room to talk, but I have plenty. That's not me being holier than thou, I just don't get smashed and cruise around. And I don't see a problem with deriding someone who did.

Get better and shit Keeter, just don't ask others to pay for it without disclosing what really happened.

^^ exactly. I hope MADD or some other organization gets a hold of this because this is really disgusting. Here is more fitting analogy. I like to go out and randomly discharge my gun in an amongst other people. I do it frequently (I have even been caught by the cops a couple times). Anyway last week I was out shooting my gun randomly cause its fun and I somehow shot myself and have lost the use of my lower body. Why don't you give me money so I can walk again.

just a couple of things...my $.02

I know I have a bias, as I am friends with Brian

I certainly can understand a lot of the attitudes and opinions on this thread, and I guarantee Brian understands it as well

Brian is paying for his mistake...probably moreso than most of us can fathom..but so is his family...this will help them as much as anyone

For the record, Brian is a great guy, he just always kept to himself...he could come off as arrogant or whatever, but that wasnt who he was..unless you were friends with him he wouldnt say much to you but that was just his personality..not a personal attack on you

I do disagree that "joe blow" student would not get recognition...there are plenty of fundraisers and benefits for current students or alumni that need it...he just happened to play basketball so the fundraising as well as his mistakes are all more public than the average person

I dont hold anyone's opinion against them, however I just ask that you think about donating. He made a TERRIBLE mistake that almost cost him his life, couldve killed someone else and did make the rest of his and his family's life much different...he is lucky that is all it did I have done my share of idiotic things as I am sure most of you have. Please consider helping.

I dont understand who has been mislead? It was reported in the media that Brian was charged with a DUI. If the family has chosen to keep additional facts private, what do you care?

I honestly dont even know what you are talking about.

If you didn't already know the story, this is a little misleading.

Not everyone knows that this guy just kept drinking and driving until a tree stopped him.

if someone doesnt put up signs at the game telling people the REAL deal here, I will be VERY disappointed in the wolf web.

so since he did this to himself, why not take up donations for Sidneys son as well?

really? you want people to make signs at a basketball game detailing the events/mistakes of a 29-year old guy who is fucking paralyzed? I mean, it was reported in the newspaper. its obvious most people here know what happened. its not some CIA secret.

the guy is paralyzed for the rest of his life. he paid for him mistake. it could/couldve just as easily happened probably everyone that posted in this thread....I am sure most of us have driven when we should not have.

^Most people here does not mean that most people who go to the game. I would bet most of the people who go to the game will hear the story of a tragic car accident that paralyzed the young man and either not know of the actions leading to it or not make the connection between this young man and the young man from the newspaper article.

maybe not, and I like I said I am biased. however I would think the crowd would be talking about it and I am fairly certain that most people who follow NC STATE basketball know what happened.

I guess I just dont understand the animosity...I understand the points of the posters but not the anger. No need to kick a paralyzed person in the balls with signs.

Keeter is a good dude who made a bad mistake which he will tragically pay for the rest of his life. He and his family need help badly.
