man they are HORRIBLE. it's like a cheesy disney-sounding knock off of the postal service.

well, i've only heard that one song, fireflies. the postal service stuff seems a little deeper, darker to me (i'm thinking of this place is a prison).

i dunno, just my opinion. owl city is painful to me.

if postal service was any good, your original post would mean something.

Being a good cover band doesn't mean the band you're aping is any good, it just means you're good at replicating shit.

there's a motley crue cover band that practices in the same building as one of my bands

they're note- and tone-perfect

it's pretty amazing

but they're still playing motley crue songs so i'd never go see them

I went to his concert in Atlanta back in early September. He was kinda lame and had no personality. There were two girls with him (the one that sings and one that plays violin). Only $12 but it wasn't worth it having to deal with the two terrible opening acts as well.

ONLY $12!?!

I paid $13 and got my face melted off by Monotonix, plus got to see Whatever Brains louder than usual and a totally awesome garage pop band from Nashville called Turbo Fruits.

$12 might be cheap where you come from, but you should be seeing quality shows for that kind of money.

I understand that I could have gotten a better concert for $12 dollars but its not like I got ripped off. For a venue just outside of downtown Atlanta, I wouldn't expect to pay much less.

Quote :
"In an interview with EW, Adam Young (aka laptop sensation Owl City) admits his no. 1 single "Fireflies" and the Postal Service in general "are pretty similar," but at the same time claims he's "a lot more of a Death Cab fan." For example, he'd only heard Give Up "a little bit" before people started pointing out the pilfering:

I've become more of a fan having started Owl City, actually. I had some friends in high school that would have it playing in their cars and stuff. It was cool, but it never really caught my ear. It's kind of ironic, looking back at it, because a lot of people do relate the two projects. I can totally see it now, but I didn't really then, for what it's worth.

It's worth a lot, now that you've sold over 100,000 fireflies. There's more. In the form of an unintentional punchline. (Speaking of which, yes, that's real merch pictured above. Real sad merch.)

Via EW:

EW: A lot of people wish they would put out another album. Is that something you would look forward to hearing?

ADAM YOUNG: I think [Give Up] left everyone asking, "What are they going to do next?" Since no one has done anything quite like it, it's almost like everyone is naturally saying this is the next step -- maybe that's me, maybe that's this record.

Maybe."

The only good thing to come from Owl City is the Magnetic Fields joke in that SG story.

^^ That video was funny, but it was followed by that fucking terrible She & Him cotton ad, so boo.
