I need standard depth servers. Older the better, really. Speed is not key in this application.
I prefer IBM or HP, but will consider others.
WHAT YOU GOT? (hoes?)
Oh yea, also need a 24+ port 10/100 switch, a hardware firewall, gateway, 10/100/1000 Copper switch (less ports ok) and a UPS. Everything needs to be rackmount. Also need a rack. lol.

what are you looking to pay and what specs do you need? I have some old servers, but I need to know what age you are seeking? 11/16/2009 8:27:37 PM |

oooook.
Things for lower power machines or 1 medium power (I'm thinking twin PIII's or a single Xeon 2.5Ghz or something):
Gateway/Firewall (Probably UnTangle linux) NAS (freeNAS linux) Virus Scanning & Media converting (no need for high speed, mostly MP3's and FLV conversion- Ubuntu LTD) One CD/DVD burning kiosk (Ubuntu LTD)
Medium Speed (I'm thinking Xeon 2.5 up to around twin Xeon 2.5 - OS is Ubuntu Server LTD): Red5 (live flash encoder) VLC, multiple encoding instances 1-3 VirtualBox instance (XP32)
High Speed (I'm thinking twin Xeon 2.5 up to 8 core Xeon 3Ghz - OS is Ubuntu Current 64Bit): After Effects rendering Blender3d rendering 1-5 VirtualBox instances (mostly office work, and controls for above)
I grew up on Solaris, so I'm not against going the Sun Microsystems route either. Just need some hardware on the cheap. Currently eyeing a truckload of used IBM gear (we have a IBM tech in the house who can hook up cheap/free replacement parts.) Our rent includes all the power we can use so I kill dem treez don't care. 11/16/2009 9:03:30 PM |

Oh man, you have good timing. I have a stack of server equipment I'd love to have gone, and I think almost everything on your list is in there somewhere. I have several HP servers, a few IBM, and a few Dells . . . . ranging from dual 1.13GHz to dual 2.4GHz Xeon. I have a 48-Port 10/100 switch, hardware firewall, and UPS around too (all rackmount).
PM me and you can set up a time to come look at what I've got and make me an offer. 11/17/2009 2:05:41 AM |

^we'll constantly be in the business. PM me next time you have something. Just found out today we're looking into a new facility that should mean I get a 'green' cave in the old place. 20' ceilings, green screen all around.
Oh, and it means we can run fiber to the wall in the new place 11/20/2009 12:15:25 AM |
