As someone who is starting to write again, I think a personal wiki would be an awesome tool to have. This could be especially useful in areas such as world and character building, keeping facts, traits, locations etc. consistent.
I was glancing at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wiki_software and I ran across http://tiddlywiki.com/ and it is the basic gist of what I want, but isn't really that strong. The reason I looked at tiddlywiki at first is because I knew it could be kept on a USB drive or something easy. Being that portable isnt a 100% must, but it would be a preference at least since it would be nice to have this around even when not online.
Anyone have any recommendations, personal experiences with this stuff? 11/17/2009 11:22:52 AM |

I recently began using Zim wiki (http://zim-wiki.org/) on my Ubuntu desktop and I'm liking it so far. It's a WYSIWYG wiki and is very easy to start using.
It uses GTK-Perl so you might have to install some more stuff when you try it on Windows. As for being portable, I think you can export it to an HTML file(s). 11/17/2009 10:52:39 PM |

WAMP (assuming you're using Windows, if Mac, MAMP) + MediaWiki. DONE. 11/17/2009 10:55:40 PM |

if you're doing writing, something like a mind mapping approach might be more helpful than a wiki approach. i don't have any particular applications to recommend, but it might be a tool you didn't know about that could work better 11/17/2009 11:01:39 PM |
