So i have an RCA L32HD31R tv that i bout about 6 months ago. For the past 3 months i've been looking for my remote and it is no where to be found. I tried getting a universal remote, but could never get it programed. upon investigation i found out:

Quote :
"
The word from RCA technical support is that the remote for the L32HD31R operates on a different frequency and there is currently NO universal remote on the market that will work with the set. They say that they have plans to market a universal remote and that they are working with other manufactuers of remotes but there is no resolution or time frame available. In short, you will have to use two remotes and keep checking the RCA website for a breakthrough."

and someone responded
Quote :
"go buy a learning remote. you should be able to program it to accept the IR signals from the TV"

what is a learning remote, how much do they cost, and how exactly does programming it work.

thanks tdub

I've never heard this term but it would make sense to me if it refers to a remote that "learns" individual commands (key depresses) by manually inputting them. if this is correct, then the procedure is (which you can't do since you don't have the device's remote):

1.) initiate learning on learning remote
2.) place the device remote and learning remote so that IR sensors are facing each other
select key
3.) depress the desired key on the device's remote
4.) depress the key on the learning remote so that this remote can learn this command
5.) repeat 3-4 as necessary.

Yeah the issue with learning remotes is that you generally have to have the original remote to be able to transfer the signal. Your best bet might be to contact RCA and buy a new remote, unfortunately.

Logitech Harmony remotes FTW. Especially if you have a set-up with several components, it will control them all. Program it on the computer with what specific device you have and it will communicate with it no problem. Only issue is they cost more, but my Harmony One was worth every penny

Harmony Remotes are great, I use one for Xbox360, TV, cable box, DVD player

But if dbhawley's google research is correct, even a Logitech remote won't support that particular RCA model

Its worth borrowing a friends to try, but I still think the easiest solution would be to pay RCA directly for an overpriced replacement

^Yea, sounds like if the reasearch is correct the ONLY remote you can use with that TV is the one that it came with, which really sucks and is kind of a douche move by RCA.

You tried calling RCA to get a replacement remote? (And yes, Logitech Harmony if you can do a lookup and verify your TV will work with it).

It's generally fairly inexpensive to get a replacement from the manufacturer.

i would be very surprised if a harmony remote didn't work - it has some of my very obscure stuff in the database.

unfortunately, i can't search for your model, as the setup website is down right now

when it comes back up, though:
