Andy Summers isn't a wretched guitar player, it's just that he's a jazz guitar player in a pop band. That explains both the unnecessarily complicated chords and the horrible over-chorused tone.

Stewart Copeland was a jazz drummer in a "pop" band

and he's arguably 50% of the reason for their success.

Andy Summers might be a good guitarist, but in his only stage, he was pretty bad outside of the rudimentary stuff he got away with playing in The Police.

I've been trying to think. I know there are examples but they aren't popping into my head for some reason, maybe because I listen to a lot of guitar driven music? I dono. I agree about the Pelican drummer though.

Tom Morello might be the most overrated guitar player in music history.

^^ Are you saying that only based off of his RATM stuff or just overall ? Cause I agree he might not be the best but he is definitely an innovative player and he can definitely shred his fair share, he just never really did it in any of the RATM albums...aside from a few parts of the first one.

Everyone thinks the Edge is overrated.

He is, therefore, in my book, underrated.

I'm gonna say... George Harrison.

Love the Beatles. Love his songwriting. His playing always left ALOT to be desired. Good thing they had Clapton on speed-dial.

Tom Morello, Edge....

The topic is on if they're wretched, not overrated. Regardless of what you may think about their band or music, I'm willing to bet the majority of guitarists would rate these guys average at worst.

the majority of Morello's stuff is single note riffs and guitar noise bullshit.

I saw him perform as that Nightwatchman shit and it was horrible.

so I agree with that.

also I said this thread failed because the Andy Summers isnt a shitty guitar player. If anything Sting is a shitty bass player and over all worthless.
