My gf's getting married next year and she wants to take a cruise to Cozumel for her bachelorette party. It's a 4-night cruise and costs $998, which, IMO, is a lot to pay for a bachelorette party (at least one that doesn't involve Vegas). I budgeted for $250 to $500.

Is $1,000 a normal bach party budget? Maybe I'm just out-of-touch.

sounds pretty fucked up to me

that's a lot of fucking money - especially when you factor in other money that you'll be spending on the actual wedding (assuming that you're a bridesmaid)

^^ Where does your friend want to go?

I wouldn't mind dropping a grand on a trip to Vegas. But Cozumel can be done way cheap. 1k is a LOT for a cruise to Cozumel.

^ And I'm not a bridesmaid. The bride's high school friends are bridesmaids. I'm just one of her best gfs in FL. We've only been good friends for a couple of years.

convince her to go on a cheaper cruise. you can get on a good boat for a 4 nighter for way cheaper than that. maybe not cozumel but definitely somewhere in the Caribbean (sp? fuck it)

what time of year next year?

oh my...I would never expect my ladies to pay that. *Side Note* I also would not make them spend a shit load on their dresses either, especially if I could not pay for them.

Lucy, I thought you were ballin out of control. This should be of no consequence to someone whose life is as awesome as you say yours is.

It's MLK wknd, hence the higher price point. But with so many travel deals to be had right now, it seems silly to blow a grand on Cozumel.

^ IMO, 1k is an inappropriate amount for this situation.

I think destination bachelorette/bachelor parties are becoming pretty common. Sometimes I don't think the people getting married really think about the fact that not everyone can afford/justify a trip like that. I guess you just have to be frank and say you weren't expecting something to cost that much and it puts you in a pinch and see what she says.

I've never heard of a bachelorette party being that high

My best friend's party was just a sex toy party soooo I guess she was a super cheap ass Everyone brought some form of beer or liquor and we just got drunk at her place with (fake) penises on our heads.

Ask her to spot you the money and see what she says.

^^^ You're more than welcome to do that, Gronke. It would be entertaining!

^^ Bingo. Her future hubby makes ~$200k in medical device sales. And she makes about $100k at her job. I think they sometimes forget that most 20-somethings aren't pulling in $300k per year.

^ See, I've never done a bachelorette party with this kind of budget. Most of my gfs' parties have been under $200. You prob don't have too much to worry about, particularly if they are young brides.

Maybe suggest something else as a cheaper alternative. You're probably just going to get wasted and make bad decisions, and you can do that anywhere ... no need to be in Cozumel.

yeah, so far one of them has been really good in considering cost and gave us two options of the brides maids dresses (a cheaper dress or more expensive j.crew dress that we can totally wear again) if we want our hair done, ect. But still, with the dress, alterations, shoes, and wedding present I'm already invested some $300+ into the wedding, I don't and won't have another $200 to spend on going out celebrating.

I've always operated under the premise that an appropriate amount to expect someone to play is to take what they would typically spend on an action packed weekend night out and double it...for me thats about 3-400

Once you get higher that, it becomes more of a burden for some people than a treat

I will charter out my sailboat and "captain's services" for half that.

It will take us a bit longer to get to Cozumel than that, though. There is sleeping room for six, but unfortunately only one bathroom, and it's a bit cramped.

The upside will be the 24-hour open bar with top-shelf liquors and awesome food by yours truly. And "captain's services"...

At least you have a heads-up to start budgeting. Go ahead and stash some cash. Even on a mega budget, you can still drop a little dough between cab/limo, random penis objects and drinks.

Hmmm. How long would it take to get from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas or Key West? I'd be down! You will be generously compensated!

To let you know about the stripper pole...none needed. Not when you have a 30' mast on the deck. A sailboat is a stripper's wet dream...

The big thing is I need to get said boat to Port Canaveral first. It sits in Oriental, lol.

Oh...here's your captain:

Agree with Slave, around 400 sounds reasonable.

LOL. That could take a while.

^ And I didn't think about that. I'm fine on small boats, but not sure about the others girls. The waters around Port Canaveral are a little rougher during the winter.

^^ And 300 to 500 was what I anticipated. You can have a great weekend getaway for under 500 bucks. Especially since I work for a major hotel company. Travel is usually uber cheap for me.

The one way to justify a higher price tag is to combine a bachelor party with something else, say someone's 30th birthday or a fantasy football draft, or maybe a tupperware social for you ladies

chicks i know know from UCF were definitely high maintenance

they have no concept of what others do or make

but i did drop a little over a G on the last bachelor party i went on, 4 days playing golf in myrtle beach

but that was for everything, not just the room and getting there

i say if you dont know this chick that well and aren't even in the wedding, it's okay to blow it off for cheaper fun

^ I didn't realize that a weekend in Myrtle could run that much! Unless you spent the weekend in the champagne room. BTW, if you golf, you should join me and Buck for cheap golf at Knight's Play over Christmas.

UPDATE: Apparently, the bride-to-be misread the cruise details and thought it was $998pp, which is what she told the rest of us. Turns out, it's $998 for the room, split between 3 people. Critical reading skills! I just assumed it was that $$$ bc it's a holiday weekend and she had selected a special package.

Panic over!

But I'm still somewhat appalled that she thought $1k was reasonable for a bachelorette cruise.

definitely not worth it for a chic i would describe as

Quote :
"We've only been good friends for a couple of years."

long time friends, maybe, but even then i would only do it if it were a tight knit group of us who had always been close. in that situation it would be something we would offer. never would i ask to receive such a party for myself.

the most expensive trip i've had so far was to charleston. that trip cost me around 400 total, but that included me driving, food, drinks, strip club and golf.

^^ There are only 3 girls (including bride) going on the trip. She and I are both relatively new to Florida. Her close gfs/bridesmaids are spending a ton to come to the wedding, so they can't make it to the bach party. We're extremely close. Just not childhood friends.
