Comments?
I think I'm gonna get one for Christmas to play the movies I've got on my external hdd. I would run it off MythTV which might come out cheaper if I just find a crap comp to use as both my front and backend comps, but it would also take longer to setup

I like mine (just got it last Friday), but the fact that it doesn't downmix files with WMA Pro encoded audio is huge issue (for me) that likely won't be corrected.

Basically what it does, it does well and better than an HTPC, but the WMA issue drives me up a wall. Of course, if you don't watch any WMV-HDs, you'll probably not run into it.

Have you tried converting or are you afraid of lessened quality/buggy conversion? I'm sure you've already seen this in some other forum if it's driving you up the wall but just in case:

"Basically you can convert 5.1 WMA to 5.1 AC3 with behappy or MeGUI's audio component (which is based on behappy)

Then you can can use the Solveig ASF Muxer, there is a free version around; google for "SMMASF_2006_03_02""

It's not that I can't do it, it's that I don't want to and I don't want to risk the files not playing on my 360 (which is why they're all WMV-HD in the first place).

It's an annoyance because it seems to be purely a license issue to keep costs down, not a technological issue; and I would have gladly paid extra to get the license.

I haven't even seen any of these WMA problems. Is this audio codec mostly being used for stuff that is encoded in WMV-HD? That might be why I am not seeing it as I don't stream things through my 360.

If you use even remotely common stuff (divx, xvid, h264, mkv, etc) then you should be fine.

HALP PLZ, can someone that owns this thing look in the Setup to see if Russian is in the Language menu? Tech sheets online and even the full PDF do not provide a full list of languages available it does show a screenshot of the language menu, but it only goes down to Portugese and it looks like there is a down arrow for more options. WD phone tech support did not sound trustworthy.
Thanks!
