i don't like watching the first round games anyways, so i guess i would just ignore one more. it would make the bracket challenge even harder..

^you dont like the first round games??? thats like the best 2 days of the tournament

they are saying itd go to like 96 teams and adding a week

top 32 teams have a bye the first week

says that the NIT would sort of be molded into the NCAAs

who doesn't enjoy the opening weekend of the NCAA tournament?

it's the best long weekend of the year

I would support expansion to 96 teams

That way, State might have a chance to go dancing!

god, ridiculous

it would be like the opposite of bcs, instead of the reg season meaning EVERYTHING, the reg season would be essentially meaningless aside from seeding.

The proliferation of meaningless low-level conferences shouldn't cut into the number of legit at large teams getting into the tournament. However, they shouldn't expand the field in a way that would fundamentally alter the tournament. There are not 96 teams capable of winning a national championship. I think they should consider one of two alternative options:

1) Do away with automatic bids to all conference champs. Instead, cap the automatic bids and make them compete for the remaining slots using a formula based on current year conference RPI and past years NCAA Tournament record.

2) Alternatively, expand the field to 68 teams (4 play-in games for the 4 16 seeds). Cap out at this level. 15 seeds have been known to pull off upsets.

this is the change that needs to be done, if they insist on making any changes.

^^ the 2nd option would be cool, i heard commentators saying something about that during the playin game last year.

these are the two most fucking retarded ideas i've ever heard.

keep it at no more than 68, and don't move to fucking cable. god damn it

if the field was expanded to 96 teams, imagine how many Big East teams would make the tournament...probably like 12 or more each year

I guess I didn't really mean the first round, I just don't bother watching 1-16, 2-15, that crap.. but I guess the 7-10 games and everything are still good

more teams, more games to choose from, more chances to give the fans of the teams something to cheer for, more moeny for the various tournament sites, more ad money, more playing experience, MORE CHOICES FOR FANS

i dont get what schools might not like this, cept like unc or duke cause theyd have to wait longer

oh and cbs too. it sounds like they want to have more games so they can put it on the espn networks. espn is better than cbs! you dont get your game cut off for ugly sitcoms or news lies or be subjected to that idiot david letterman.

i dont get whats not to like for all teams. i would love to see everyone playin night after night, wearing the colors proudly, playing their hearts out for the gold, reppin for all schools on ESPN instead of sulking for all off season while they play on the elite cbs tournament.

As was mentioned at halftime during the Butler and Georgetown game, howabout we just demote teams that can't compete at the level of a low mid-major (UMBC, Florida A&M, NCCU, Bryant, etc.) to D2?

There is no way that 347 teams are competing at the same level. By eliminating certain teams from the division, conferences can be merged, and better teams can make the tournament and improve the competition.

I think 64 is plenty enough, some of the competition is pathetic and by eliminating those teams from D1 the quality would improve immensely.

i dont see why sports fans and players wouldnt want more games, more teams, etc

or to be on espn instead of a stupid station with sitcoms and garbage news

i wish all sports was on espn. its just better.

who cares what isn't on when you aren't watching

CBS doesn't rush off toget all that stuff on during the games anyway, plus its actually free to watch games outside of your regional game, thanks to WRAL multicasting and the NCAA putting them on free streams online

if it moved to ESPN i'd bet they would try to keep it to their bullshit espn360.

plus they'd probably try to run the bottomline during the games

i love a clean screen.

I don't see how the additional Drake-Florida Atlantic game is going to generate NET revenue. MAYBE if the home team just hosts the first round. The NCAA Tournament has already cut back in travel expenses.

how about this...make all the lower-tier conferance winners have their own little tournament to get into the 64...that way you don't have teams like Central Connecticut State getting in over legit teams

^Yeah Davidson and George Mason are not legit at all.

There's no chance they make the Final Four or Elite Eight.

The addition of the Drake-Florida Atlantic game doesn't mean shit but the addition of the West Virginia-Auburn game or the Maryland-Michigan game would.

Did I say Davidson or George Mason? No. Both were competitive with legit teams throughout their seasons when they made their runs, and were 10 and 12 seeds.

I'm talking about Portland State, Mississippi Valley State, Mount St Mary's, and other teams that have no business sharing the court with major conferances

God no, I don't want every tournament game having the same announcers, graphics, picture, and overall feel of a early season game between UNCG and UNCW.

Terrible idea, and it's all so ESPN can corner the college sports market. They might as well break off all college sports programs and give them to ESPN to directly control. I used to love ESPN, but more and more it seems they just want to control sports in general, not just provide quality coverage.

ESPN is better than CBS?! Think about what youre saying.

First of all, the basic facts: CBS has much better picture quality of HD productions, and is available to more people (not everyone has cable/satellite). Its bad enough ESPN will have the BCS in a couple of years, but it would be a travesty if this tournament was moved to basic cable.
Heres what happens if the tournament moves to ESPN: first of all, it will be a huge contract, so your cable/satellite bill will go up because ESPN will demand even more money per sub from your provider. Then, when there are four games going on at once, and for the past several years youve been used to getting them all because the local CBS affiliate multicasts, now youll get ONE, and youll have to pay up for the rest. Yeah, in a dream world, they put a game on ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, and ESPNNews...but why do that when they can charge people $100 for the entire tournament on ESPN Full Court? Plus...Dickie V calling the title game...need I say more?

just my opinion.....but if my team was a true 66th place team in the NCAA, I think i'd rather see my team win a few games in an NIT tournament than watch them get the crap beat out of them in the first round of a 96 team tournament.....just my 5 cents.

The only thing about televised sports I'd change right now: put baseball back on NBC or send Bob Costas and Bob Uecker to murder Joe Buck and Tim McCarver with a shovel.
