It works fine with my mac.

However, when I plug it into a windows based computer it will go through the install. Say the software is installed, but will not work.

Any thoughts?

what is it formatted as (file system)?

Also, it may be installed but not have a letter assigned. Look at the disk manager and see what it says.

It depends on how it was partitioned.

Mac can usually read anything but Windows cannot understand the Mac OS file system.

You can format it as 'FAT' which would make it readable on both.

^only problem is that you can't have a file over 2GB
MacDrive works well if you want to keep those files intact and plan on using the hdd on few comps.

FAT32 also has some limits on the number of files you can have in a single directory.
