This place is better than most of the other theaters. stadium seating is pretty much garbage because it lets people make hand puppets in the light from the projector, and people get hurt tripping in the steep sides.

it's also cheaper. and a better crowd.

LOL

Buy an ad?

I've never actually been to a movie there. Is it the kind where you sit down and get up with a disease you didn't have coming in? Or is it legit?

My favorite first-run theater. I went to crossroads last week, payed 19 dollar bucks for two tickets and I felt like I needed a tetanus shot when I left. Also, they only do student tickets sun-thurs now!!!!

[Edited on December 21, 2009 at 8:10 PM. Reason : and the seats are comfy at MV.]

It's cheap, it's close, and it sells beer. I go there to see movies whenever they have the ones I want to see.

Seriously?

..and even if these were legit problems they're well worth being able to see over people's heads. I saw Inglourious Basterds at a non-stadium theater and missed half the subtitles.

This was a joke. You said:
"MV would be even better if they had spirits for sale."

and I said, "Liquor too." to imply "MV would be even better if they had liquor for sale"

I realize that by having to explain this it destroyed any chance of this being funny.

Between free movie tickets you get on DVD and other purchases, B1G1s through Fandango, and the old "double feature" routine, why would you ever pay full price for a movie? The student tickets only during the week is bullshit though.

There are three or four rows in a stadium seating auditorium that have a decent viewing angle for the movie. This problem is exacerbated by digital projection.

Traditional seating provides a decent viewing angle for everyone, save for short people, who have no reason to live.

galaxy sells beer and wine. Couldn't MV also serve wine, or is a different license needed?

Mission Valley is awesome. I'd choose it over Crossroads any day. Not only do they have beer, but the snacks and drinks are actually cheaper than "big" theaters, and I agree that the crowd at MV is better.

I've never once seen a single person make a hand puppet. In order to do so they'd have to go to the very far back row and stand on the seat, and still be pretty tall. I've also never seen a single person trip or get hurt. That's what hand rails are for.

That being said, I still <3 Mission Valley cinema. I saw some of my favs there like X-Men 2 and Kill Bill. Good memories of a $5 flat movie ticket. The seats were pretty old but not uncomfortable. The cinemas here all have outrageous prices too. The main one, too, only offers student discounts Mon-Thurs and even then it's like a 50 cent discount.

Biggest non-Imax screen in Raleigh. That alone makes it worthwhile for a lot of movies.

Plus being right next to cuppa, so it's ideal for social moviegoing.

Nope, they could. You have to pay for another ABC license, but the criteria for being able to sell beer and wine are the same. They get a much younger crowd, though, so they might not sell as much as Galaxy does (because we get all sorts of old folks up in here).

But yeah, MV rules. I don't make it out there much anymore since it's so far from my house now, but I get out there when I can.

^Both are Regal theaters, so its probably chain-wide...North Hills is one too...which is a shit theater by the way (only still go sometimes because of how close it is). Saw the last Harry Potter movie there...movie started a late and they never dimmed the house lights completely. Because of the lateness, as soon as the credits hit, the movie stopped and the lights went up full, as if to say "Get the fuck out!". Oh yeah, we complained...first manager acted like we were crazy, so we found her manager, who gave us each two free passes...probably the only reason to go...the fuck up so many presentations you can complain and get free passes fairly easily.

Im going to give a nod to the Colony, just because they have an annual screening of Serenity, as well as some other classics (saw Evil Dead II there, was a lot of fun)...also, they serve the beer and its only $5/ticket.

Check out the Cinema Overdrive series at the Colony if you haven't already.

I got interviewed for about an hour by the DOJ or whoever it is that does antitrust investigations when Regal was buying Consolidated (Crossroads). I was of the opinion that, as evil as Consolidated is, Regal owning virtually every mainstream theater in the triangle would be far, far worse. Shockingly, now that they own all the multiplexes, prices have gone up, quality has gone down, and customer service has dropped to nearly nothing. Blerg.

When you said liquor too, I took it as confirmation rather than a satirical comment. As I had never seen prices for whiskey or whatnot, I of course assumed they didn't have it, but never asked.

I'm just gonna give a quick shout out to the Campus Cinema. for $7 you can get two student tickets, a large popcorn, and two drinks, $9 for non-students, if the idiots check your id http://ncsu.edu/cinema Check out the schedule after 1/5, the new schedule should be up.

I think this is ridiculous, I make sure everyone is out of the theater before the projector stops. I would rather start the next movie late than deprive someone of a second of the movie they payed to see.

I went to a movie with some friends last summer and this guy bought a kids ticket at a kiosk for an R-rated movie. The ticket tearer guy totally called him out, it was pretty funny.

It is the cheapest theater around that plays new releases, but it's definitely not the most sanitary.

Quote :

Not that bad, but the floors are always sticky and the seats are so old that you kinda just fall into them. The no stadium seating thing gets annoying when someone big sits in front of you, too.

You are aware that the entire remaining population of Golgafrincham was killed off from a disease contracted from a dirty telephone, right? They shouldn't have sent their telephone sanitizers off in Ark B. Serves 'em right.

Well, clean movie theaters are kind of like that.
