I'm so happy about Marc-Andre Fleury making Team Canada. It wasn't really a surprise after the way he's been playing all year, but he worked his ass off for it.

I'm really surprised that there isn't one Calgary Flame on the blueline, especially after all the money that they threw at defensemen in the offseason.

Either way, Team Canada is going to be dirty. They actually built a team with depth and didn't just go for an NHL all-star team.

He's definitely going to regret it when one of their glass players like Forsberg gets hurt in the next month and they don't select him as the replacement because of his comments.

All this Olympic talk got me watching old clips...the Canada/Czech semifinal shootout from '98 is especially interesting because you start to hear the rooting interest of the CBC commentators as the shootout goes on; they start calling all of the Canadians by their first names.

Normally I am all for some team Canada (yay Marty!) but with Zach likely to get the nod for the US I have to go with the home boys. I still think team Canada's jerseys are better looking though. How Phaneuf isn't on team Canada is beyond me.

^Phaneuf I believe is way overhyped. J-Bo had a much better argument than Dion. I personally like Doughty getting the nod over either. If NHL players are used in Russia in 4 years (so up in the air right now) then this is smart. Plus, staying up late and seeing Kings games, Doughty has been so impressive considering he just turned 20.

The US team should be interesting, I'm still pissed Jussi Jokinen didn't make the Finnish team. It would only be fitting if they were to lose in a shootout by one in the medal rounds. I mean how can you not select someone who not only has great chemistry with one of your top defensemen in Pitkanen, but also the all time leading shootout goal scorer in the NHL?

I hope Gleason takes Paul Martin's spot, not Whitney. I just have never really liked Ryan Whitney for some reason, I don't know why. He's a good defenseman, I just think that in a short tournament Gleason offers more in terms of a physical defenseman over Whitney. I could be wrong, but just my opinion.

What's the status for Team Finland? Is Selanne still hurt and would Jussi Jokinen be the first choice for his replacement?

It would be nice if he turned his pissed offness from last night against the Canes into the motivation needed to focus on being an elite goalie. I hate the banana slugs the same as everyone else, but in this instance we need Miller to be in top form. Best goalie for the past decade (Brodeur) vs the best goalie now (Luongo)...not even sure who'd I'd take...

Not sure if Fleury will play a prelim game, but I think Luongo will be impressive enough vs. Brodeur in his prelim that he'll get the start in the first knockout game and they'll have no choice but to ride him.

Granted, Luongo has an iffy history in big games so far, but Brodeur has been even iffier over the past few seasons.

I'd go with Luongo when it comes to crunch time. World Cup in '04 he stood on his head vs. the Czechs in the semi when Brodeur couldn't go due to injury. Plus it's his home rink.

nbc sucks, period. their handling of olympic hockey is just another thing to add to their list of horrible decisions and coverage of events over the past decade.

Well NBC's argument from that link makes total sense, and I love hockey.

They can show several things in that 3 hour block that more people will watch, or show one thing in the 3 hour block that less people will watch.

Yeah, I mean let's face it, networks go for the short time ratings gain. It doesn't matter if it's NBC, ABC, Fox, CBS, ESPN, Versus, USA, Disney Channel, or whatever. It's the reason why ice dancing will be on NBC and USA/Canada will be bumped to MSNBC, and it's the reason why the only NHL teams you can watch on national television are Detroit/Pittsburgh/Philadelphia/New York/Washington. Long term implications are irrelevant; whether that's right or not, who knows, but that's the way it works in the television industry.
