Hey, NC State put pressure on themselves to make the FT's and they didn't. I like the strategy, but not with 8 seconds left ever.

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU STUPID CUNT.

The strategy worked to perfection, they took a 2% shot instead of a 35-40% shot.

Absolutely terrible strategy. Even If they make the three it's tied and you can hold for the last shot.

this strategy only works when you can make FTs. Unfortunately, our aggregate team FT % in crunch time is about 21%.

I dont think it was a great strategy. How many times this year have we allowed offensive rebounds off a missed free throw? Many. I was seeing the guy making the first, missing the second, florida rebounding it under the basket, going up for the shot to make it, then getting fouled after making it.

Its amazing it didnt happen.

That circus shot in the end was just pay back for this teams inability to make free throws. To this degree, this is one thing that I sorely miss Sendek for.

announcers mentioned that Javi might have missed the FT on purpose to start the clock preventing them from getting anything off.

should have worked?

It's an ok strategy if you can shoot an average free throw percentage. We can't do that. The only reason that shot won it is because of our terrible ft shooting down the stretch.

I think it's funny that not only did Florida win on a miracle three, but while attempting to MISS a FT, Florida made one to win by 1.

you just described a situation much more unlikely than making a 3.

If you're up 3 and have fouls to give what Lowe did is the right strategy. Don't foul and Florida has about a 35% chance at hitting a three. Foul and there's about a 40% chance at them making 2, about a 2% chance at making 3

It was a tough loss, but hey I always look at the glass as half full. We're a solid team this year who can compete with the best of them. We were picked to finish bottom percentile in our conference, which is asinine IMO. We will finish t-5 this year. Of course, this has to come with patience.

It would have been a great strategy if we could make free throws. But its not like its anything new that we cant...weve been missing them all year. Unless you are very confident in your ability at the line (and I see no reason why this team should be) you shouldnt use that strategy.

i could understand if ellington, redick, and salim were on the court. Florida missed their first 15 3s. You have to look at the situation. Even if they make a 3 we still have the last shot and a chance to win in overtime.

If they won the game, then the strategy failed. I'm not trying to hate on you here, man. But don't sacrifice FT's or a lead to rest on probability.

Im going to go ahead and say that 2% from the other foul line is high.

I would say given the circumstances, that was probably a 1/500 shot.

Uncontested and not for a 1 pt win, a college player could probably make 1/100?

I'd guess more like 1/30 or so. If you have time to square yourself up and take aim its not so bad. But with 2 seconds to catch and heave w/ a fraction of a second to take aim on the basket....yeah, that shits crazy.

I'll take giving the other team that shot at the end of every game.

I would also bet $100 on an undefeated season and probably be well favored.

It was the right call. We were up with 2 fouls to give. Everything, and I mean everything, had to fall into place for Florida to even be in a position to shot that 70 footer for the win. 99% of the time, it works fine. I'd much rather FL have to earn it shooting FT's, fouling us, have us shoot, possibly inbounding.... than take at least one 3 pointer (if not 2 shots) to tie with time left on the clock.

Yes, it sucks the way it turned out, but NCSU would have never been in that situation if they hit a couple FT's earlier.

As a team with the lead with 8 seconds left you rarely want the opposing team to score with no time running off. We shot 50% from the line. That strategy only works if you are shooting in the 70s.

^ we weren't doing that badly... we actually have guys that can make FTs. The problem is a lot of those same guys are completely anti-clutch. I don't know if this is something you can coach, or if you just have to recruit for it. But people like Degand and Horner are missing it.
